Default New Z owner here

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. Wanted to say hey to everyone. I just got a 2004 Z Touring 2.5 weeks ago. I love it. I came from a Civic with a swap. The car is amazing and I look forward to a good relationship with it =). Got a few question.

1. My car was manufactured 03/04....so it was not to long ago. What model transmission is in it? It's a six speed. I have heard of three. 004...006....88? Is this correct. I heard the 004 had problems and the 88 were the newest and are very stong..?

2. What kinda of HP gains can I expect from a good exhaust. SportCompact or some magazine said the new Stillen was putting down an extra 20-23whp. Has anyone dynoed with just exhaust and/or intake? Someone told me that exhaust and intake only made 4hp on the dyno? Anyone gotten more?

3. Window problems. I dont know if this is just the way it is or what, but when my drivers window is down completely and I close the door, I hear the window hit something. Its kinda a knocking sound. Anyone had this happen before? The car is brand new.

Congrats! And welcome to the forum!

1. As long as your tranny is an 06 or higher you're fine. I'm not familiar with the 88.
2. Don't believe what you hear or read. At best an exhaust upgrade (true dual) will net you around 12 RWHP. If you go with Nismo (not true dual) you'll see around 6 RWHP. If the new Stillen is producing that much more I sure would like to see that dyno sheet.
3. No rattle or knock here that I can recall. May be normal but I'd have the dealer check it out.

Keep us posted on the Stillen. I've yet to choose an exhaust hoping that Nismo will come out with a true dual. At the moment I'm leaning towards Borla but my motivation is really just the sound of the car. The extra ponies are just an added bonus for me.

Welcome to the Club.

There are some great threads floating around here discussing your questions. Run a search and you should find some excellent reading material on the subjects.

Congrats on your Z. Best sports car for the money.

Welcome!

Buy an exhaust that looks and sounds good to you. All have close to the same gains.

I have an very early 03 and my window cluncks when it goes down too.

congrats on the Z, what motor did you have in your civic?

p.s. does that 'knock' kind sound like something rubbing/grinding by the hinge of the door when closing it?

I had an JDM H22 in a 97 coupe. I loved that car so much.....its just sitting im my driveway now.....claimed as unoperable because emmissions F*%$ed me. I live in chicago suburbs and in January 04 they passed a law that your test type cannot be changed. My car is an OBD2 and the motor an OBD1. Because of this my test type is OBD2. They tried to hook it up to the computer and it wouldnt read because its OBD1 now. However they refused to put the car on the rollers to test it. They failed me three times and suspended my license and plates. I was soooo pissed. Now the car is claimed inopertable so I could get my drivers license back, but the civic just sits now. =(

Congratulations on your Z, Best of luck. How can I tell which transmission I have? I think mine is starting to feel "funny".
