Default What is up with the 350Z oil dipstick???

Who engineered the dipstick design?? I have never seen anything like that before. It has to bend in all sort of contorted positions just to go back into place.

Its the only pos on the car! Someone should make an aftermarket dipstick, they would sell out of them in a week. I changed my oil last night and I couldnt tell if I had reached the full line mark or not. Its BS

I live in Florida ( lots of sand ).
There is always sand in the little guide area where the stick goes in. Hopefully wont ever be an issue, buts its something I worry about.

Is there a oil level monitor that you can install into the Z. I hate the dipstick, it is actually meaningless. I hate running around not really knowing if I lost any oil. If I had some guage to tell me what my oil level was, I would sure feel better.

Any ideas?

If the Z's dip stick was a flavor, it would be ball sweat.

I am glad that I got the base model and upgraded the sound system. For $1k, my system sounds WAY better than the Bose. It almost makes me forget about the dipstick.

My girlfriends 3.5SE Altima has a nice straight, easy to use dipstick, as do all the FWD VQ cars.

The main reason the 350's dipstick is bad is because the motor, including the position of the dipstick was originally designed in a FWD platform...and the dipstick is in a perfect location for a transversly mounted engine. Turn the engine sideways...and you have a very expensive block re-work just to have an easy to use dip-stick on the RWD cars....

It's all about the $$ folks...
