Default Front Plate Law question...

OK, dont think this has been covered yet, and anyone on this board who works for law enforcement please reply:

Question: If I am driving in another state other than I am registered in, (ex. Florida plates driving in Ohio), and I do not use front plate, can the ohio police stop and ticket me?

Do they have a list of states that front plates are required? Can I "safely" drive in Ohio without my Florida front plate?

you can drive in another state w/o mounting your front licenseplate...but you must have the plate on your dash....its referred to as an "advisory mounted" license plate...you can do this w/o getting a ticket...and w/o having the car look ugly and drill holes in your front bumper

I live in southern Ohio and I see drivers every day from Kentucky with no front plate displayed anywhere. I don't know how it is up north, but there's no trouble with it down here. I know some Ohioans who don't actually even use their front plate, since it's so common...

they cannot hold you accountable to have a front plate if it is registered and tagged in another state because that state will normally only give you one plate, therefore impossible for you to display it on your dash. front plates are useless anyways.

might be wrong, but I beleive displaying a plate on the dash is illegal. something about object may shift during motion. sharp metal sheet flying through the car after collision; not good.

MD does require a front plate. As far as driving in another state, i have a NH license and registration, and have probably been in the state for 2 total hours with my car, so i never put on front plate and have not been stopped for it yet driving in other states (after 15 months). I did get stopped, however going over the GW bridge with no front plates, or rear plates, or registration. I had just bought the car and since i bought it in VA from a private party, no one would give me temp plates. Luckily the cop let me go with proof of insurance, and i had military leave papers.

ya the plate is supposed to be secured to something if its inside. most people throw them on their dash when they park over here in the chicago land area, but downtown they will still ticket you from what i hear.
