Default Modified Fronts: How often do you scrape?

Just had the Kaminari front lip spoiler installed on the car and all I can say is I'm so happy I got a urethane lip spoiler. In a week and a half I've already had 3 incidents.

First scrape happened 3 days after the install. I was driving in San Francisco on Pine, as I approached the hill, I heard the dreaded scrape sound. No damage but scraped the underside pretty good. Never had to think about it before on SF hills but I guess I have to be more careful now.

Second time wasn't really a scraped. A person whose parallel parking skills were less than stellar used the bump and go parking method. Her explanation for it was that she doesn't park in the City that often. My anger level came down significantly after the lip just popped back into shape with no damage.

Third time was a pothole. Bottomed out and just got a few paint scrapes.

get used to it its gonna happen a lot. just try and go up driveways and speedbumps at an angle and stick to roads that you know are in good repair.

I try to enter every driveway and speed bump slow and at an angle. Can't really slow down going up a hill or drive at an angle on a regular road with other cars following. Going around the hill isn't that easy in SF, everything is a hill. I guess I'm screwed until I figure out alternate routes

you should see me driving around *** the people behind me ... if i gotta slow down and angle up an incline, so i don't break my bumper, that's what im doing ... everybody behind me can slow thier roll

i've had my car lowered with my air walker bumper for about 9 months and i've never scraped, not once.

I can imagine if your lowered or have a kit your gonna scrape
sooner or later.

I've scraped under the car once very lightly, and I have stock suspension. man thats a horrible feeling.
Kinda like when the chalk scratches over a chalk board, makes you cringe.

now if you are real **** about it get a set of adjustable coil overs and raise the front .5-1.5" and that should compensate for the drop.

I scrape my front every now and then... i scrape the under side every now and then... there are some times you cant exit at an angle... worst thing is exiting at an angle and your rear wheel falling off the curb and smacking the under side of the rear bumper...

Default potholes

Even with stock suspension and no lip you have to be cognizant of the low front, rear and underside. Curbs, driveways and bumpers are like landmines, and esp. backing up when you can't see down behind or alongside of the car. My worst experience was approaching a huge pothole in Philly last winter during a rainsleet storm. I slammed on the breaks when the car in front of me went into the hole and almost disappeared. Although I stoped in time, the guy behind me almost rear ended me. Lots of horn honking and me yelling f/u and signalling him about his single digit IQ. Not sure which would have been worse.

by the way... there is pretty much NOTHING you damage to the under side of your car (depending on exhaust) when scraping... except cosmetically under your front bumper...

the only part that will scrape under the car is the rear cross brace (not expensive and very hard to really damage I only see a few that are really bent but it isnt that bad at all and will not hurt performance) and the resonators in some exhausts like the NISMO exhaust resonator which some times scrapes... besides that...

out of all of the cars that come in on our racks... 7 of 10 scrape that rear cross brace that look at stock height... 1 out of 100 bottom out so hard they hit the stock cats (looks like these cars spun)... 10 out of 10 y-pipes are scraped slightly....1 of 10 y-pipes are scraped to the point where the braid is ripped off but the pipe is not punctured... 1 out of 200 y-pipes have been broken from scraping...

it sounds alot more painfull then it actually is...

ENJOY DRIVING THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont worry about scraping...
