Default How well will the Z hold its value?

Please bear with me and no search comments, I all ready have used the search feature.

I saw the residual numbers for the Z on a lease.
Question 1: Is this what the actual value of the car will be after 2,3,4,5 years etc?

Question 2: Is there a chance this Z will be a worht more than say an 04, 05 etc. becuase it was the first year of the 350z?

Question 3: Why do nissans have horriable resale figures? And will this be true of the Z?

I thank you inadvance for all your knowledge and insight. I am seeking mature responses from those individuals know about cars values.

Default Look at Z32 twin turbo

If the new Z model won't hold value, then why is the Z32 twin turbo still holding value. Where i live, some guy had 103k as mileage and still wanted to sell around $17k. Also, i've noticed that this is somewhat typical of the Z32.

Just because someone was selling a Z32 for $17k doesn't mean he got it, also was that stock or did he have any mods?

I am just affraid that as much as I want the car and as long as I have been waiting, that is going to depreciate just like other nissans. I know all cars depreciate, and they are bad investments, but nissans don't hold their value as well as honda or toyota. I am not bashing on nissan, I currently own a nissan. But I can't even get near break even on it, so I may have to pass on my Z. I just thought my current nissan would hold its value better than it has. So I am wondering how well will the Z hold up.

Default It should fare much better than other Nissans

I think the Z will fare much better than other Nissans(Altimas, Maximas, etc) and maybe be up there with Hondas. Only will time will tell. I do think the Z will do really well if u sell within 2 yrs if you buy it now. Demand is high right now. You're right about the guy who was selling the Z32. I'm not sure if he was able to get his asking price.

Price won't hold too well as far as i've seen. The Z32 holds horribly compared to MKIV Supras (its closest competitor).

We're talking about value over 1 -2 -3 years.. in 6 months this car will probably still hold well, i'd say a loss of 15%

Can't say for sure. I would imagine that it will only be $2-3000 off list 6 months from now on a pre-owned. Regardless of the resale on Nissan's other vehicles, the Z is the hottest car on the market and a SPORTS car. Don't buy the 10k depreciation first year, no chance it'll lose 30% of it's value year 1.

Default Vette holding it's value?

Since when has a vette held it's value? Let's see 50K new 4 years later 25K. I don't consider that good.
I think the best car I've seen that held it's value was the 2000 Civic Si I had. I paid $16,500 new one year later with 15K miles I sold it for $17,000.
The S2000 also does real well.
I think the 350z will do fine. The 300's were overpriced the 350's are not.
I sure hope the 350z losses 10K in one year because I'll buy 2 of them for that price. It's not going to happen.

I expect it to lose about 10% a year. That's about what my S2000 did.

i think supply and demand will have a lot to do with it. the first year, with such limited supply, it will probably hold it's value quite well - people will probably ****** up used ones really quickly. the s2000 did this (i was in the market for one). however, once the number of cars started growing, the car depreciated quickly (a used s2000 can sell for only $35k cdn in the winter).

Supras and Zs hold their value relatively well because they are the most reliable sports cars.

Cars in general lose a lot of value the second they're driven off the dealer's lot. It takes about 2 years, if I remember it right, for the value to level off enough so that the trade-in value is equal to or greater than the amount still owed on a typical loan.

I agree that supply and demand will play a part as well. In addition, sports cars are usually an emotional purchase, and so don't necessarily follow the same rules as other cars. To many they are a luxury purchase, so paying more is not a problem. Like everything else, a car is worth what people are willing to pay.

I also remember reading that the value of a sports car can be affected by the color, at least for collectible cars.
