The Facts...

Here is the Car and Driver article read it for yourself, you'll just lose performance at the top end. Look at the test results, 0 to 60 is about the same. So if you don't race regular fuel is fine and it won't hurt your Z.

"Relying on knock sensors, the engine controller can keep each cylinder's spark timing advanced right to the hairy edge of knock, providing peak efficiency on any fuel and preventing the damage that knock can do to an engine. "

"Cheapskates burning regular in cars designed to run on premium fuel can expect to trim performance by about the same percent they save at the pump. If the car is sufficiently new and sophisticated, it may not suffer any ill effects, but all such skinflints should be ready to switch back to premium at the first sign of knock or other drivability woes. "

Regular or Premium?
Is premium fuel worth the premium price? Can you hurt a high-octane car by running it on the cheaper stuff?

agree! if you have to save .30 per gallon, maybe the Z is a little over your budget.....Toyota has a 500.00 rebate on the corolla....and it burns regular unleaded.

You can also boost your octane by using Toluene. (check out the details here https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=77978)

I've seen the inside of engines that were designed for 91 oct. and have consistently run on lower grade fuels, most recently a 2000 Maxima. There is major build up of crap that is left unburned and in time will definitely catch up with the cheapskate. Like the old fram commercial said, "You can pay me now or pay me later".

For me I want the performance and I would choose to pay the piper with every fill-up rather that later giving it to the mechanic.
