Did Nissan Underate H.P. in 350z?
Since this car seems to be much faster than any magazine is reporting, and after reading many posts on here. From owners of NSX's , to M3 owners, saying power is pretty much dead on with their cars. And people saying they have beat c5 vettes. Do you think think Nissan under rated the H.P. in the 350z?

Ive seen 247 at the wheels, I am guessing that the car is under rated. Even if its off by 3 HP, that makes it 290. I usually say "about 300hp" to other people cuz rumour has it that the car is under rated for insurance purposes, but I doubt it.. I dont know. As soon as yur done with intake and exhaust.I say 300hp.

Now, if it was like "290" or "285" then I'd believe they were rounding down.

It's not underrated. Nissan learned their lesson, and waited to dyno cars off of the line. Of course, there will always be some variation in each engine, and testing conditions will be different. Therefore, any spread in the 235-250hp at the wheels range would not seem abnormal to me. I think they gave their best estimate of what the average power would be at the crank.
Regardless, you're never going to feel a 5hp difference (unless you work for a car rag, and Porsche wines and dines you into saying their 'new' boxster with 8 more hp feels like a completely different car).
Raceboy, good call...300hp does sound a bit better.

so, what does a 10HP difference "feel" like. I think your right on when you say, "feel". I am on a K&N filter kick right now. Can't prove a darn thing but I swear I "feel" a difference.
So at what HP does it turn the subjective into the objective - 20HP+?

There's no magic number per se, to feel a difference in power...but a lot of sensory things go into your perception of speed/power. If the car is louder, windows are down, weather...all sorts of things can make you perceive a difference in how the car 'feels'. I'm not sure what the magic number is, but it would be different for each person as well. Some are sensitive and more experienced at modding cars...I'm sure Schumacher would be able to perceive a very slight change a lot better than I would. Maybe he could notice a small hp difference, but for the average Joe, you have to rely on a dyno in a controlled and repeatable environment to really see differences from modding. The Butt dyno just doesn't cut it as a scientific test!

Yeah, I hardly ever notice a change of 10hp, but 50hp is something definitely different.
And yeah, this Z tickles my senses when I mash the pedal. ... everytime Im done rowing through the gears, leave it in 6th and then let off the gas, I let out a scary laugh that one would hear echoing down the halls of bellvue.

If you are going to lie, do it big
If we are going to lie, we might as well say it has 400hp, 0-60 in 4.9, top speed 182, curb weigh of 2900 due to carbon fiber shaft, and a quarter mile in 12.8 seconds. Damm, that would be nice, maybe $15k in mods will get me there.

My Automatic posted 226 at the wheel on a dyno. So i dont think their fibbing about HP. It seems that there is a 5% difference in loss between an auto vs a standard. Does this seem normal or a bit high? 17% for standard vs 21% for an auto.
