Do you ever feel bad when......
Ok, So heres the deal. I just broke in my new Z, and Ive been pushing it, well... what I call pushing it, im sure what I do is nothing compaired to some of you. But anyway... I find that when I "push it", I feel bad! I feel bad for my car!... like seriously, I feel as if the car is my baby and I feel bad for flooring it/red line it. My car before this was an 03 Altima 2.5S, not nearly as much power. And I would push that thing all the time and not feel bad... I dont know!?! Do any of you ever feel bad for pushing your car?
hell no, if you werent pushing it you should feel bad for not driving it like it was meant to be driven. I take pride in driving the Z how I feel it should be pushed. Its not a sedan, its a sportscar

Very true.... Never thought about it like that....
This is one of the reasons I leased my car. When I buy expensive stuff, I want it to last and I take good care of it (house, pc, etc). With the Z, I wanted to drive it like it's meant to be driven, and not worry about having it last for 5-6 years or 100,000 miles. I want to drive the **** outta it and get something new and fresh in a few years.
Every time I take a first time rider, esp. women, out for a spirited drive, it's all worth it.

cbdeuce, drive it hard from the start. Make sure your rings get set well or you'll dyno your Z and it will have less hp than if you got on it from the first place. Dont make the same mistake I made, im gonna reset the ecu when I get back to my precious Z...... I miss driving my baby soooooo much.

I took it easy just at first, gradually increasing the revs, but I had it to 6000 RPM within 100 miles. I drive it hard regularly, preferring to stay above 3000 RPM except when steady cruizing, and I deliberately take it to 6000 RPM or higher every time I drive it.
When I'm on the track I usually have the pedal on the floor, speed-shifting through the gears & running it to redline. Believe it or not, When I'm doing that, the car shifts easier than when I try to take it easy!

I changed to synthetic fluids after just a few thousand miles. It will burn a half-quart of oil every few thousand miles, but that is normal; I would worry if it didn't. I put nothing but BP/Amoco Ultimate in the tank; we get 93 octane here!

I'm now at 24,000 miles in 19 months and the car is as strong as ever, revving easily and willingly to redline. I think I made the right choice in break-in strategy.
here is a little bit of good info. most of the pistons shown are from motorcycles so it just gives you an idea.

I'm not convinced about the tough love method, based on personal experience with over 15 new cars that I have had in my lifetime. The cars that I broke in as the manufacturer instructed all did great service for me. The one car I had which I didn't break in slowly (2000 Maxima SE, by the way), I had to replace the engine at 77,000 miles. I stick to my tried and true method.
