I wonder if this thing will fit:

<A HREF="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000058AKR/ref=ase_thenewzcarcom/104-4629298-8377525">Garmin Talking StreetPilot III GPS</A>

Only 700 bucks!

Well, you'll definitely be able to do the following:

LCD Display in dash: $300-$900 depending on size and quality
DVD player in one of the rear compartments - $300-500
RF Modulator to patch audio in to stock stereo - $30

So at the most, you could replace the DVD navigation system with a DVD *player* for $1400ish. That's totally reasonable, and would give you a very high quality system. However, on the cheap side you could do it for under $500 without too much effort.

I had worked out a DVD system for my 300ZX for about $250. (4" screen, portable DVD player, patched in to my head unit that had RCA ins) Unfortunately, the 300 had no convienent place to mount a screen. The 350Z has a great compartment that will give you added security when it is closed, right in the middle of the dash. Slick!

Not to mention, this would be a perfect place to mount aftermarket gauges, etc. Or, for the truely hardcore "theater in a car" buffs, it's a good spot for a center channel speaker, if you installed a DVD head unit in the stock location. (or vice-versa)

Lots of options. I agree with everyone else though, I am a _little_ afraid that it'll "look silly" without anything there, but I'm sure there will be ways to put it to good use.

ethan84ae - I use the Garmin. I think that it will fit - a storage compartment. The unit is about 2.5 - 3.0 inches deep x 4 inches high and 6 inches wide. Looks like it will go right in there for storage.

I didn't order the navigation for a couple of reasons, it doesn't play DVDs and it doesnt have auxiliary inputs.. Nissan is asking 2 grand for it.

I figure if there is nothing else to modify the car with (performance-wise), I could always spring some cash for this:

Full navigation, DVD player, aux input/output, voice recognition.. can be purchased for around 1300US, and then get a 7"(or wahtever size fits the nissan compartment) like so:

or whatever fits) LCD display for around 200-300US and you're done, plays DVDs, tells you where to go, you can eve plug in your favourite video game system.

Sounds good to me, but I'll wait for performance modifications first

I really hope that the angle of that picture makes the storage space MUCH shorter than it really is. If you look at the footwell, they seem pretty short as well due to the angle.

Pioneer DVD/Navigation unit is like 1300US (you can get CD ones for half the price).

and for the 7" screen, you shouldn't spend more than 300US.

A nice professional install (one where you dont see any wires at all) shouldn't be more than 100-150US. So thats like 1750US, very close to what you'd pay for the nissan navigation, but you dont get the option to watch DVDs on your 7-speaker 240watt system or play your playstation (if your into that).

OR you can spend that 1750$ (or the 2000$ nissan wants) on engine upgrades.
