Disengaging gear - dropping to neutral
Alright, here's the scoop. Let's see I am going to a light and I am not interested in downshifting, I push in the clutch, take the car out of gear, and then just brake.
I used to downshift, but I feel like I'd rather put wear and tear on my brake pads than my synchros and my transmission.
My question is this - can I just take the car out of gear without pushing in the clutch. Assuming my foot is off the gas.
And if I can, any adverse effects?

Assuming your foot is off the gas, no, it's much harder that way.
You have to blip the throttle for it to easily come out of gear without using the clutch.
I personally don't know of any adverse affects from doing this. I've been doing it in my truck for years without a problem. I only do it in my Z occasionally....

Why is it not advised? Please explain.
I know for a fact the car will come out of gear without the clutch. I've done it plenty of times to know. Hell, I did it today!
I also drive a truck and I only use the clutch for taking off, the rest of my gear changes are done with revmatches. I don't do that in my Z even though technically I could if I wanted to, but I do occasionally pop it out of gear without using the clutch. I can't see any harm in that.
