Question Weekend Racers?

I've got a friend who is a member of the mustang cobra svt club.

Recently his chapter got to take their SVT's to Tx Motor Speedway to do some laps on both the oval and the road course. Further, during part of the time they had driving instructors in the cars with them to point out what they were doing wrong, how to go faster, etc.. and then the rest of the laps they got to drive solo.

The reason I bring this up is that I've always wanted to have the opportunity to go to a race track and put on some laps, especially with the assistance of a qualified instructor. The problem is that racing/driving courses are typically pretty expensive. I don't know what my misguided cobra friend paid, but I don't think that it was any more than a $100 or so (he's an economist with a large family - so he's definitely on a budget).

So the question, anyone here heard of such a thing offered or in the works for 350Z owners???

While this is likely to be moved...a friend of mine has a Cobra SVT and for him to "race" anywhere they want him to install a roll bar and 5 point harness.

I'll check into some things maybe at the TMS or the Motorplex. I've got some family connections at both tracks. Maybe we could put something together for all Z owners in the off season. It will take me some time, though, so please be patient.

U might want to check with the Z Car club of America as they are the national Z car club and they host events all over the place. There is also a local chapter near you probably that will allow you to gather up old and new z for a fun day at the track. In Ohio we have the Mid Ohio course and for about $600 you get track time and driving instruction if you bring your own car. No softtops unless you have a rollbar.

NASA offers plenty of HPDEs throughout the year... I just got back from one at VIR this weekend, and I'm going to Summit Point in early November. For those of you in the PA / OH / NY / WV / MD / DC area... Beaver Run near Pittsburg opened two months ago, and NASA is holding an HPDE there next weekend...

If $250/weekend is a little steep for you, then the Z Club of Texas hosts a DE every Fall at Hallett Racing Circuit in Hallett, OK. $90 gets you 5 20-minute sessions on a Sunday.

Visit some of these sites and check their schedules/locations:

http://www.thedriversedge.net
http://www.nasatx.com
http://www.pca.org
http://www.texasworldspeedway.com (they sometimes host events)

Michael.
