at 16 = 1985 Toyota Celica GTS/1988 Accord LX-i
at 17 = 1991 300zx na
at 18 = 1996 Accord till now at the ripe age of 22
Now = graduate this Dec. in Mech. engineering and hope to get a track Z, or Tundra double cab.

When you add in gas, insurance, tires, etc. (i.e. cost of ownership), it adds up, especially if you also plan to buy a house like I am, in which case a $50K job doesn't seem that much anymore =(

So much to say, but none of it will be met with anything but resentment.

Vic, this is why I proposed the finance section via this thread:

ChromeSilva, we're in the same area. Make sure you come to the next Evolution Autosports meet so you can check out the world of Mods available to us Z owners. Mods are addictive, and you'll get to see some awesome cars. I'm hoping Jeff (Owner of Evolution) is willing to put together an October-ish meet so we can have one last one before winter rolls in.

Congratulations on your new car. Keep your head on straight when you're behind the wheel. Northern VA. drivers are crazy!

i honestly don't care how old Z drivers are, or understand why anyone else does. Why do I keep seeing threads about it? Is it a bragging thing? Yay, you have a car, congratulations. :P

I think that a 17 yr old that goes out of his way to announce to the whole forum that HE bought the car and that HE is 17 is just screaming, (my parents bought it, but I don't want people to think I am spoiled or can't earn it myself)
there is no problem with your parents having bought the car, show them some respect for getting it for you.
I'm not totally doubting the statement, but at 17, I can't see any other way you payed for the car yourself unless you sell something illegal...

or you can enlighten us on what kind of job you have to allow you to do that, do you not attent HS? do you play any sports? If you did, you would barely be able to work a part time job which, if you found one to pay you that much $$$, please, let everyone else on the mysterious money making secret! just isn't plausable if you ask me...

Also, if you WERE making that much money, you obviously aren't smart enough to save it.. cause if you waited a few years, you would have money invested, money to buy a car, and money you are still making... which equals alot more monthly income.

or maybe I am just saying all this because I am jealous, um, no not really, I had a 99 Turbo eclipse when I was 15, a 2000 trans am w/ ram air when I was 16, and a 97 toyota supra TT when I was 17, by the age of 18 my parents felt I was responsable enough to buy my own things, so I went without a car for 2 years, making money, saving money and finally 1 month ago, I was able to reward myself with a 2004 BASE Z.

I was very fortunate that my parents bought these cars for me, yes I was spoiled, but only with cars, I come from a enthusiast car family so it just happened that way, BUT I atleast credited and thanked my parents for the cars, instead of trying to look even COOLER by saying I bought it myself...

Sorry just pis*es me of when kids don't have any respect for what their parents do for them...:/

Wait a sec, you had a TT Supra, but you sold it? Why? I'm a Base Z owner, too, it's all I could afford . Too bad the owners of "higher" model Zs paid a few thousand more for the same car! Track Z : Base Z is not like Supra TT : Supra NA or Audi A4 : Audi S4

Hey Cat,
While I'm totally in agreement here with everything you've said, I would like to point one thing out.

When I was 16 (16 years ago!), I got my first job working at Taco Bell. I worked about 25 hours a week, and still managed to keep a decent GPA and even do some extracurricular school activities. I didn't have a whole lot of free time, but I would have been able to make a $400/month car payment if it was THAT important to me. So yeah, I won't doubt that he makes the car payments, but for those of us faced with the adult world, that just doesn't mean much.

I still don't see the point of the post, and it does appear as he's looking for a chance to ego-trip. The only reason he can afford the car is because he has no responsibilities in life that many of us "grown-ups" have. That's why he's getting flamed. I've proposed a "finances section" where posts like this can be moved to so that those of us who are tired of seeing them don't have to anymore. I sincerely hope that Vic sees fit to create it. Let him know you think it's a good idea here:

Oh, and thanks for your input on the Vizage body kit. Mine is on the way from RCC in a week or two!!! I originally ordered from elsewhere (you know where that is) but I got a "warning shot) from Vizage that made me change my mind and order from RCC.

Paid a few thousand more for the same car? Really? Upgrade your wheels, your headlights, your brakes, and install the aero package, and then tell me you and I paid for the same car!

I don't see it.

( I knew what you meant, but I had to give you a hard time!)

well, I had the supra, didn't want to sell it, Long story short, parents divoreced, dad sold everything... I got back the $$$ I put into the car, I cried .

KCOBEAN, I can see that, but if he implies he paid for the car, he would also imply he pays for everything else, but I could be wrong...

PLUS, you can be in agreement with me that at that age, girls can tend to be a little harder working when it comes to not being able to go out and party at 16! Boys, I didn't say all of you, just most

the only reason i got the base model was because i was planning on upgrading on the car, therefore, it didn't make since to me why I would pay for stuff I am going to take off... I still end up paying more money

BTW-- i am only 18, but i am fortunate enough to have parents who would buy me a nice car. where abouts are you in VA? i live in richmond.
I put down 15000 for my enthusiast and it will cost me about 650 a month for 2 years. My parents are covering my insurance though, I just pay for the rest. I live in Fairfax, VA.

A 17 year old is still a minor and not even old enough enter into a contract that would be required to buy a Z with a loan and I don't believe you could have paid cash. I don't want to hear how your parents are paying the insurance and where you are still living at home where they pay all your living expenses. Please prove me wrong by submitting more information to back up your claim. If you do produce documentation to substantiate your claim I will apologize to you on this forum. Otherwise, change your claim to "I have parents who were generous enough to help me buy a Z."
I make about 200 dollars a week sometimes more but I am not paying for insurance. So yes I am buying it myself. I put 15000 thousand dollars down as my down payment, I paid half for the down payment and my parents paid for the rest. 2 years will cost me 655 a month, and I make 800 a month.
