Maybe it's just people in Miami and South Beach value cars more as it is a status symbol. (also yachts and speedboats)
Anybody know what the average per capita income does Miami rank? I know it's not the top 3.

As far as income, I don't think it's Miami where all the rich people live (that's just where they go to spend money and show off). Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale intracostal, and Jupiter are where a lot of rich people live.

"the only really nice car i haven't seen that i can think of is a mclaren."
There are like less then 5 in this country i believe.
Who was driving it? Jay Leno, Ralph Lauren, or Wyclef?? : P
I live in nassau county long island, a ride down near manhasset, great neck... or pretty much anywhere on the gold coast, you are going to see countless ridiculous cars. In this neighborhood (brookville) most peeps drive bimmers, but on a nice day, like sunday when its all nice out, you are going to see all kinds of 360 modenas, that new lambo murcielago, all kinds of custom cars, you name it.
People around here are freaken rich.

I think West Palm Beach is or was the luxury car capital not too long ago. I would say it just seems that way in South Beach because people come out to show off. In Palm Beach they are just there.

I think the Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater is starting to come up. There's some exotic dealerships popping up now. Rolls-Royce, Maserati, and MB and BMW and Porsche GALORE!.

I've been to LA/SF. Been to Miami. Been to Tampa. Live on Westheimer in Houston. There are distinct differences. I'll compare few:
Houston -- Westheimer, Galleria -- less exotics, more custom modded cars. Lighting effects, anything from ricey to lingefelter, to imports, to mullet, if you know what I mean. You'll still see an occasional Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley...
Miami -- south beach area -- more exotics, less of a mod-show, more of a $$$-show. Very likely, many are rentals.
LA/SF -- depending where you are, you get both worlds (from above).
Tampa/Ybor -- whole area is not as rich as say, Houston, but it is keeping up nice. I've seen more custom work on cars there, less expensive choices.
I still like Houston most, it fits in the middle as far as $$$, and shows more modded cars then stock exotics. I least prefer Miami, as it looks most like show-off, least originals. Although I could be wrong by now, things change...

Well, before we get in to a pissing contest about who's neighborhood is more money, I think the truth is that a lot of people that travel to these places need to show off their lifestyle.

Look at the two cities with the most listings - MIAMI and LA.
Not to mention, in Miami or LA the weather will tend to favor people walking around and being outside - therefore people will be around to notice you. Ask the valets on Sunset strip - a good portion of those cars are rentals (they know b/c of the rental key chains)

Check out some prices! $2500 for a Ferrari 360 spider. Damn.

I dont' think I've ever seen such an insanely high density of nice cars as the area around South Beach. I mean its nuts... Porches are a dime a dozen as are Mercedes SL500's and I routinely see Ferraris, Bentleys, and Aston Marins. If you go to any hotel on South Beach you see them parked all over. Of all the places I've lived I think South Beach (Miami Beach) edges out certain parts of LA for having the highest density of really nice cars (lets say over $100k)
