Hey watch out for the advice on carrying a scanner in your car.
It may have been a funny-ha-ha, but it is illegal in some states to carry a scanner in a vehicle. In some states it is just illegal to carry a scanner and using it for a crime. Just do a google search for scanner laws.
If you get stopped for another moving violation and they find a scanner it will be more serious than just a simple confiscation. In most states where that happens (and it is illegal) you will be standing in front of a judge with your legal representation.

What's the difference between an infraction of the law and a violation or "breaking" of the law?
I realize there are different severities, such as wreckless driving, or DUI compared to just simple speeding.
Anyway - here is an experience in MI.

They seem to claim if you are caught with local police frequencies programmed into your direct channel scans, as opposed to a wide frequency scan you could see the inside of a cell. That is a little more serious than a speeding ticket (unless you were going 20+ over!).
heck - if you really tick them off in Kentucky you can goto jail for up to a year:

I am not a lawyer, don't really know great amounts about the law. Just don't want someone to go to jail for carrying a scanner in a state where it is a no-no.
