anyway to do this safely with out removing the emblem?
just spray the gumout on the rag and rub?
im really torn over doing this
i love the way it looks but ....see i added the black look with the CF emblem inserts you see in my avatar and this process takes away black on silve contrast. so i dont know if it would be undermining the look i created or not
i guess the main question i need to know to make my decision is how close is it to the door handle finish. if its almost exactly the same im doin it
does anyone have another pic besides just the one in raiderfans thread

I did this but did not remove the emblem from the car. Just sprayed the Gumout on a rag and carefully used a brush to get into the cracks. No removal needed.

Not the sharpest picture I've ever taken, but... only one I've got.
Since you've added the inserts for your other emblem, I would think it's a bit opposite of the look you're going for, and it wouldn't make sense for you to do it.

I still think that the color of the car is what makes the difference. I've done it to my car which is silver and I think it actually makes the car look richer. The silver sheen is just like the door handles. (Just looked again)I guess the best way to gauge whether or not you like the look is to have someone photoshop a picture showing the emblem on different color cars.

thanks for the pic
yeah i agree that its kinda the opposite of adding the CF inserts but i think it would really look good especially since i have chrome silver
chicken ..... tell me this if i do it there is no possiblity of running into a problem with the paint not wanting to come off all the way or something like that?
last question before i do it. if i dont like it and i want to replace the badges like they were . does anyone know how hard it is to remove the badges. are they just on there with adhesive like the front and rear

ok i just did it
went to wal mart bought some gumout carb cleaner for $1.58
i decided not to take the emblem off but just to make sure i put some painters tape around the emblem.
for all you guys who are thinking of doing it. its even easier than what others have posted. as soon as the gumout touches the black it takes it off. and you dont even have to use a lot. both emblems took less than five minutes. now i do have to go back tomorrow and get a few of the creavises with a brush but its so un noticeable i decided to leave it until i can see better tomorrow. but that shouldnt take any timeat all
i have to say its one of the best things i have ever done to my car. and costs less than $2 so let me bakc everyone up that said how easy it was.
what kind of polish did you guys use? ive been wanting to get a good polish for the door handles anyway
i will post some pic tomorrow
raidersfan... were you the first person the ever do this?
i think we should make this a my350z trend!

Hmm I think I'm going to do this too to my Chrome Silver. Looks sweeeet. If you think about it, I bet in 5-6 years everyone's black from their side emblems would be peeling off anyways.
It's such a shame that cars exteriors just cannot stand the test of time. I notice the black on one of my emblems is peeling a little.

please post pics
im curious to see what is looks like on a color besides silver
i think it will look good the whole idea behind it is to make the side of the car flow better and look less broken up by the black. i think mines looks especially good with the clear side markers. theres nothing one the side of my car that stands out or draws your eye to it.
the only color i wouldnt do it on is super black but that might even look good too i would just have to see it
after i did it i it looked like it was always supposed to be there. it just makes perfect since with the door handles, until this thread i never knew what was under the black paint so i never thought about it
