Default is it normal?

After driving it hard down some mountain runs, the car is really hot. Is it normal for it to have so much heat soak?? I mean its so hot that there is a little bit of smoke coming out of the engine bay. It smells like a little bit of plastic burning. Nothing major, but yea even at night when i run it hard it has bits of smoke coming out. I drive it really hard though, bouncing off the rev limiter for a second before a hard turn, driving it that hard. But is it normal for our cars to heat up so much? is this a big reliability concern on the Z?

How long have you had it. Many of us smelled something like plastic burning in the first couple of weeks then it went away. I don't recall seeing smoke though. A trip to the dealer might be in order.

it only happens after a long hard run, the run last about maybe 15-20 minutes, but its hard running toppin in 3rd gear at most, and than a quick rev match and downshift with hard braking into second for the next turn. I have a really twistie back road that most people only drive at about 25-35mph, and on 2 hairpin turns they take it at 10mph. But at night where there is no traffic you can take it hard at a slight drift uphill. So yea it only happens after driving the car very hard.

It's not uncommon for the brakes to smoke a little if you run them really hard. Do you have the stock binders? Also, if you're really whipping the engine, any fluid that seeps out will burn off. The more that you beat on your car, the more likely it is that gaskets, seals, and fasteners will loosen up, thus promoting more fluid leakage.

As for the oil cooler, great idea! I put a BIG remote filter on mine, the same size used on the Chevy V8's, and a 6 pass cooler with fan. You will be amazed at what it does for your oil. I use Mobil 1 0-30 and the bigger filter and lower temp keeps it nice and clean. I drained a bit after about 2500K and it was still a nice clear honey color.

yea i check all the fluids, it seems fine a little high but thats because its really hot. the motor temp isnt over heating at all, well atleast thats what it says on the temp gauge. So yea i was just kinda confused. Maybe its the brakes but it had smoke coming out of the bay and sides of the wheel wells for atleast 5-10 min but i was on the brakes hard in these hairpins, i guess i will have to do it during the daytime and really inspect it. Well hopefully if anything does break my service departement is as good as they kept saying when they sold me my car. but only time will tell....
