Default Hitting teeth when shifting...

I was just wondering if anyone has been experancing the same thing as me. Ive noticed in the last month or so, that when Im shifting from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd, I can feel the shifter hitting the gears teeth? I dont know why this is? I was thinking about taking it in but I was thinking.... Im gunna have a heck of a time trying to get the dealer to replicate the problem because you only know its happening when your shifting, and chances are by having them drive it... even if they do feel it when shifting they'll deny it.

Does anyone know why I would be feeling the teeth when shifting?

I had the same problem and got a brand new transmission. If they say they can't replicate the problem then you should suggest you drive while a tech or manager rides with you.

Your talking about when you move the shifter to the next gear? Same thing happens on my car, I just blew it off as normal. We have a 60,000 mile powertrain warranty right?

I highly doubt Nissan gives out loaners plus I think you have to be 25 (or maybe it's 21).

Yep, it's a 5 yr/ 60k mile LIMITED powertrain warranty. Limited is the operative word. Wonder what exactly that means....

Do the gears make a grinding sound when you shift? My transmission was that's why. As far as the loaner car is concerned, I actually work at a local Nissan dealer and we give loaners to every new car buyer. You should make a stink if they don't give you one.

It doesnt grind when I shift... I can just feel it hitting a "tooth" when I get into the next gear. I just called my local nissan, they said that they only give loaners if they know that they are gunna have to keep it for a day or more. So we'll see what happens...

Check your insurance policy. Some policies cover free rentals if you have car trouble. ZRA

Mine grinds when shifting ionto 3rd at above 5000 RPM's. My dealership said they couldnt reproduce the problem and my tranny was fine. I guess next time i'll make a tech ride with me, or either i'll just dog the crap out of my car and let them replace the tranny when its shot. Oh yeah, i have a 75,000 mile bumper to bumper powertrain warranty.

Nforce1,

I have that since day one, its not a grind but like hitting the wrong "teeth". When I shift from 2nd to 3rd, thats where it happens. It doesn't happen all the time. If I shift from 2 to 3 without taking a pause (a split second) around neutral, then it happens.

The feeling is like a beginner just learn how to drive a stick and hitting the gear incorrectly. I drive stick for 15years, so thats not the problem.

Anyway my car only has 6k miles (built day 02/04). But it will be hard for you to prove it.

Maybe MyZ4U2C is right. Drive the crap out of it before warranty runs out.

Tony

Go to the problems forum and look at the transmission sticky. This is a very common problem, and more than likely it will start grinding around 20k miles. I just had my transmission replaced last week.

I have noticed that when shifting from 1st to 2nd, the clutch doesn't need to be fully depressed (just about 75%). When shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the cluth pedal needs to be almost fully depressed or else I start feeling teeth. Shifting from 3rd to higher gears, the clutch can be depressed to about 75%. Downshifting follows the same pattern.

I could have sworn it was

1-2 notchy 2-3 notchy 3-4 notchy 4-5 notchy 5-6 notchy then 6-5 notchy 5-4 notchy 4-3 notchy 3-2 notchy 2-1 notchy

Or maybe it's just my car.....
