2 years ago today my Z arrived…
I can't believe it but today marks two years (Aug 23rd, 2002) since I picked up my 350Z from the dealership. After having pre-ordered it 8 months earlier the excitement I had when I finally picked her up was overwhelming, you can't imagine how big of a smile I had. At that time it was in the first US shipment and one of the first to be delivered to a customer in Dallas. I remember the crowd of people waiting at the dealership to catch a glimpse of the car. And then there were the head turns the car received on the road…I mean no one had seen this car in print or on TV much less on the road. I even made it on the local radio station the next day to talk about the new 350z, I mean it was weird but it almost gave you instant celebrity status…or at least always a great valet spot (no worries I always parked it myself). The stories could go on and on, but as I look back at the last two years of ownership I still have that smile, even with the issues (feathering tires, drifting to the right, window grease streaks, etc). I know I know it’s a only car, but after having two previous Z's, to me its more then just about owning a new car, its about being part of a revitalization of a car that evokes such passion in car enthusiasts. So enjoy your Z's, stay safe and spread the word….the Z is back!

...well consider me green with envy of you now since you have FI and I don't! Everything always comes full circle.

Cool, we got our cars on the same day!! I think mine was the 2nd to be delivered from the dealership.
I was going to post a 2 yr thread, but you beat me to it.
It was a very odd thing to be driving around in that car as one of the first owners. I have never had that kind of reaction in any car I have owned, and its the closest to celebrity status I ever want to have.
It took about 2 months before I saw another Z driving on the road (except for Z meets), Now I see 2 - 3 a day. I guess its time to do something to it to make it more unique.

The markup really varied from dealer to dealer, city to city and state to state. If you searched hard enough you could typically find a pre-order spot for MSRP with at least a $1000 deposit. However for some that was not always close to where they lived. I know many people bought Z's from out of state to ensure getting MSRP. I remember hearing stories of markups in the $4-7k range, but again if you did that it was because you didn't try to find a better deal or the better deal wasn't geographically desirable, which I understand.
I got mine local at MSRP with $1k down. I was originally 13th in line but happeded to receive mine in the first delivery.

Man, time flies by too fast. Seems only like yesterday how I picked up my Z from a dealer 120 miles away and drove it back (it was raining HARD on the highway that day, which ended in a beautiful orange sunset ). It'll be my 1 year anniversary soon
I remember the first time I saw a Z on the road. My only expression was . I also have the issue of SCC where the 350Z first debuted (Silver Z on cover doing a burnout).
One year later and I still wouldn't trade it in for any car under $100k

Traveled to Lubbock, TX... per a member tip here.
Drove the 17 hours back.
Raceboy and I were the first two black tracks here on the board... Takeo came in closely behind.
Wow. Those were the days.

My two year is 11-23-04 (bought new computer and re-registered hench nebie status). Paid MSRP (34,500) for CS track. Dealer was 30 miles away and I was scared to death I was gonna wreck this car driving it home in the snow. Right now I have only 8200 miles with no dings.
My first night out at a resturant I couldnt believe my eyes, people were stoping and taking pictures of my car.....crazy.

I just had my 2 year anniversary as well this week...picked up #399 CS Enthusiast for MSRP and $1k down on the pre-order...worth every cent. When I walked around the corner of the building and saw them hosing down my baby, I was completely stunned. In person, it looked even better than I had hoped for. I wanted to sleep in the thing that night! Sitting in my seats with the plastic still on them...having every single head turn as you drive down the street...explaining to everyone that it didn't cost $80k...that first blast to redline...ah, that was a good time. My favorite quote was from the sales manager as we approached the car...he said to me, "I haven't been this excited since my first kid was born."
