The part that got me mad was when he said it would cost you more for him to do his best work. Owning my own buisness I can tell you that whether I charge some one a lot, or give them a really good deal, they will always be promised my best work. Just proves to me he is a bad buisness man. Dont worry though in a good movie I just saw was a good quote "the world tends to unfold as it should" or something along those lines, anyone remember what movie?? Anyways, I know its a pain having to go through all this crap, but in the end it will be worth it and you will come out on top. Just keep your head up.

Have you contacted the BBB?
Have you contact your local neighbor hood thugs?

Hopefully one or the other should be able to sort this out, but hopefully you'll not need to resort to either. I'm sorry for your loss on this. I'd be sick.

Talking with the BBB is my next step. Luckily I have a cousin who is a lawyer in Louisiana so i won't have to come out of pocket to get this settled.

My first move was to post this and see if it made anything happen and like i said, not 30 min. after I posted this Dave called and said all that stuff. Yet, I don't know who to believe.

I think it is ridiculous about how the paint guy said it would cost more to do his best work. Like before I set no money number, he was told to do the job perfect and THEN tell us the price (so says Mike) But why would you do business that way? someone brought a good point to my attention. Imagine having that conversation with him. Well, I can do a crappy job for this much, or a good job for this much.. How do you run a business like that!??

For those that are local in Ft worth area. This paint shop is located off of I35 and NE28th st. BAD BAD AREA!!!

thats nuts...there has been mixed feedback about him...personally he has been pretty good for me

but your situation is f'ed up

since i recieved my car i have had a string of bad luck so ive been getting used to things that dont go smoothly

looks like other z ppl are getting screwed too

hopefully you get everything worked out....you are right in saying that his wifes illness (although tragic) does no excuse him from every other responsibility he has

dont let this go...i am also waiting for him to clear some things up for me concerning a rattling test pipe that shouldnt be rattling

keep up posted

That really blows, I hope everything works out for you. I would never install a clear bra right after a piant job. You have to wait at least a month for the clear coat to cure. A good paint shop would tell you not to wax the painted part for a month.

What did Angel at snythetic designs say? I have worked with him and he does very good work. Not the clear bra though.

personally i think the problem lies with the paint guy more than dave. he was the one that messed up on the fitment and paint finish, you have the right to refuse work bc its not to your satisfaction and he should fix it, or do it again. i think dave is getting dragged into this bc he recommended this place (which he had no prior exp with it seems). i agree you have every right to be mad but i think you should be more angry at the paint guy than dave.

just wanna let u know, I had a huge issue with him. Dave wouldnt give me a refund... I preordered and he kept lying to me about what was going on about my injen straight tip exhaust. He swore up and down that he had gotten them and there were fitment issues. Guess what? I called up injen USA and they said they had never even released the exhausts to anyone yet. Well when I went for the refund he ended up not refunding me the money for 4 months... and I ended having to just order something else from him. I ended up actually becoming buddys with one of his workers there and I was let in on quite a few things. First, Dave never refunds money on time.... he holds out as long as he thinks the person will hold out till until it looks like they mite take legal action then return it. Second, dave will tell you anything you want to hear to get the sale. Ask him to sell you that veilside version 4 body kit that just came out(doesnt exist) trust me he will come up with a price and date he can get it for you. His store closed down. I was wondering why that mite be.... I was actually told it was because american express closed down his line cause he was having to many refunds on merchandise that he sold and he was being investigated for credit card fraud. without AMEX... he was greatly crippled and couldnt take alot of the orders for parts.... soooooo shop was closed down. And if push comes to shove and dave refutes anything I said, I will get the EX workers to come here and say his part. Doesnt workf or him anymore so i dont think he gives a crap about saying stuff about him. anyways I wont ever order anything from 350zforums again. Yes sometimes he will get it rite and get your part for you, but why take the chance?

In addition, in his correspondence with the customer, Mr. Stoner himself is insisting that he be the "front man" for all communications between the customer and the "contractors" that he subsequently paid to do this work. He wants everything funneled through him rather than having customer <-> contractor interaction.

The parts were shipped direct to him, and he arranged for the paint shop to do the work. In my eyes, the paint shop is acting as an agent of the original vendor who is ultimately responsible for satisfying the customer.

I have corresponded with Dave recently, and I can't imagine the difficult time he is facing with these personal issues. I wouldn't wish them on anyone, and I know his state of mind right now. I'm not in any way defending his case in this particular issue, but I do in fact think it would be a very good idea for him to hire a business operations manager to handle his various store fronts while he is dealing with other events. These types of issues are costing him money, even if he is able to skirt this one particular problem.

One of the big reasons that this thread exists in the first place is because with this particular vendor, communication is a real issue. Anyone who has spent a sizeable amount of money on 'toys' for their car knows that we all like to have current, accurate information on the what, who, how, etc. regarding the purchase and delivery of parts and services. Being kept in the dark naturally leads to suspicion and dissatisfaction, and Cat is well within her rights to be as upset as she is about the communication issues in addition to the quality of service issues.

Regarding the poor workmanship, which is an entirely different issue, the right thing to do would be for 350zforums to refund the portion of Cats payment that went towards the 'services' portion of her purchase so that the car can go elsewhere for proper finishing. Continuing to attempt to address issues at the same shop that has proven incompetent, unprofessional, or even unethical is unsatisfactory in my book. They received strikes 1, 2 and 3 on the first pitch in my opinion by 1) doing poor work, 2) doing it because of the "low price" they were paid, and 3) miscommunicating information to the customer regarding statements made by others.

If you read the vendor reviews for this vendor, he has mostly satisfactory reviews. A few people like myself have posted reviews that, while they aren't truly "negative" reviews, display a certain sense of frustration with the follow through of this particular vendor.

Anyway, Cat, I know you will get this straightened out eventually and your car will acheive that show-quality you seek. Stay on top of the issues, keep the facts straight, and remember that a conclusion that satisfies your expectations is the only *real* conclusion.

Keep us posted on how things come out. Information like this is good for a small community like ours. I believe that in the aftermarket/performance community, survival of the fittest depends on objective communication amongst its' members.

Ya know this is the exact reason why you should only pay by credit card for crap like this. This way if they start trying to screw you, you hand it over to your CC company and damn is all I gotta say.

"the world tends to unfold as it should" or something along those lines, anyone remember what movie??

Its Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, the Asian guy said it and jacked the extreme jackasses' truck.

Anyway, i have dealt with ASSES before... especially with body shops. Why is it that they are always so shady.

For your sake, I hope the karma thing is a myth.

Cat...we all run into these unfortunate situations from time to time; steady your reslove and hopefully all will work out for the best.
