Antennae Swap
yes, do a search someone on this forum did that. It did fit, but the base was a little fatter than the 350Z's base, so it didnt fit perfect. But it didnt fit all that bad. Also our antennas really dont look bad at all, i must say.

Slexis, I have to disagree with you on this one. The antennae on the Z is to long. I had an s2000 antaennae on my Jetta. When I got rid of the car I took it off. As soon as I picked up my Z and took it home, that was the first thing I changed. I have to say it looks way better than stock. It only cost me $15 when I purchased it. But like you said, the base is a little bit fatter than the Z's base, but you can barely tell unless you look at it really close.
I wonder why Nissan even bothered with an external antennae. For years, there have been antennaes in other vehicles either included in windshields (including using the rear defogger wires) or even in roofs in some occasions.
I've had cars with defogger antennaes with reception I could not distinguish from my other cars with more traditional antennaes (based on reception distances from the same stations).
Oh well. Minor thing I suppose, but it would be one less thing to stick to the side of the car.

Not to rehash a very very old discussion, but plenty of cars have antennas that stick up. Of course, many of these (Benz SL, BMW) are convertibles. Perhaps Nissan was planning ahead.
This was THE hot topic about 4 months ago. I don't think many people think it's a big deal now. Personally, I don't even notice it.

How the heck does using existing wires in the rear defogger increase the cost more than sticking a hole in the side of the car with an antennae in it?
You don't have to replace an antennae in the glass unless you break the back glass. It is less likely to get damaged, I would argue, than an external antennae that will catch things (or, noncaring owners will run through carwashes).

To tell you the truth, the antenna has actually grown on me.. More so than the door handles. I think it kind of adds to the side profile of the car. Otherwise it is almost plain and barren...
