I am in the market to get the 350z roadster and have read the common problem for this vehicle is the feathering of the tire. I dont quite understand what feathering means? I have done a search without any clear conclusions. I am looking for 19in wheels and if a new wheel and tire pacakge wont solve the feathering, what will? New coils? This forums knowledge wouldbe greatly appreciated.

 

short answer is unfortunately no, new tires and rims do not fix the feathering. many have reported feathering on aftermarket rubber. what will fix it in your case is if you buy new. the general consensus is anything made after 2004.5 and into the 05's have had the changes made so they wont feather.

 

no, but it will release Nissan from providing you with replacement tires

 

the feathering comes from an alignment issue which unfortunately cant be fixed by aftermarket wheels

 

So there is no fix at all?

 

if you want some nice labor day weekend reading check out the feathering thread in the repair forum. after a few days you will have some understanding, cause this issue has been mulled over time and again. some think they have fixed it with the aftermarket suspension, like the S-tune. bottom line is you need something that can adjust camber, caster and toe. right now our Z's only come off the line/dealer lot with the ability to adjust toe. again grab a beverage or two and read up if you want better answers and suggestions of what others have tried.

not to discourage you but there are numerous people winning lemon law trials against nissan over this issue and are having their Z's bought back

 

yea I looked at that post the other day. I even signed up for that class action suit thing.

 

another issue is that after all the adjustments are made, it's thrown off after a few month.

Some theorizes that a ball joint that is not made of metal (some kind of rubber?) is the cause of all this problem.

 

well I plan on having adjustments made every 2-3ooo miles pain in the A#$ but if it helps its better then spending cash on tires
