Default Oil Pressure Gauge

Being the 'Greenhorn' of the forum here, I'm allowed to ask these stupid questions, right

So the oil pressure gauge. What is it normal for that to display? I've noticed when I start my car in the morning it runs high (60psi idle to 100psi at around 3000rpm)...but after about 15 minutes of driving it slowly drops to 30psi idle to 65psi at 3000rpm and will stay there until the next long period of staying cold. I'm assuming that's normal, but what do you guys run on a regular basis...and what should be a warning sign (besides the obvious no oil pressure). Thanks for all the input!

Sounds about normal to me. No reason for worry

Be sure to check your levels periodically though

As your engine warms up, the oil becomes less viscous (think less thick) and thus is easy to move through the system. A highly viscous liquid takes a lot of pressure of move (think sucking a very thick shake through a straw), whereas a less viscous material takes less pressure to move (soda).

Your ranges are fine. You should be around 100 to 120 when you first start up and accelerate. After a while you should be hovering around 60 to 100 psi (idle and acceleration).

A drop in oil pressure means you have lost oil or have broken the oil down (loss of viscousity).

Here are a "few" posts that address concerns such as you've illustrated...
