Angry Crap, now my gas guage is off!

I've seen all the threads about people having trouble pumping gas, etc etc....never bothered to read them cause it never affected me...until now!

I went to the pump, the DTE had been flashing since last night...still drove another 10-15miles. So I figure I'm pretty empty. I went 345 miles after all, so it's not out of the real of possibility.

So, I get to the pump and it clicks off after 5gallons going in! WTF? So I start it again...clicks off at 7 gallons. CRAP. So now I have to hold the thing JUST RIGHT and it keeps pumping...then clicks off at 15.5 gallons. I'm like, ok, I usually put in around 17 gallons when it the DTE is flashing.

Well, at 15.9 gallons gas starts spewing out of my car and all over my shoes! Not cool.

What the hell just happened? 340 miles and the DTE is flashing like crazy but I have over 4 gallons left in the car. Never happened like this before.

Is there something wrong or does 76 gas suck?

Default DTE

your DTE is based on your current avg mpg. So, basically, if you drive on the highway for the first 3/4 of your tank, your mpg will be inflated, therefore giveing you more miles DTE. Driving it in the city for the last 1/4 tank, the DTE will not be accurate. As for pumping, I have had the same problem, but it only seems to happen at certain stations (none of which are 76 )

Dude, the same thing happened to me two nights ago. First time it's ever happened in 2k miles. What causes this? I was under 1/4 a tank and I gave up at 13 gallons. Is there a fix for this PIA?

Same thing happened to me and some people say going to a different pump will help but mine was definitely jacked up. The dealership had to replace the fuel sender sensor or something like that under warranty.

That happened to me the very first time I put gas in the car. It would "Click off" after 1 gallon! I had to do it manually all the way to what, 16? lol..Never happened again, and I have been to the same station it happened at (Same pump as well).. Strange.

the car has a 5gallon "reserve" meaning it doesnt factor it into the DTE or gas gauge. so of your 20gallong tank, you have 5 gallons or about 100miles AFTER you hit 0 on the DTO. wouldnt test that exactly; but its how they all are.

as for the clicking off. best I could decide, it had to do with either the weather, or the angle of the ground that you pump on. it hasnt happened to me in a looooong time; never had it spew back out at me either, maybe you were holding it out of the tank a bit so the auto shut off wouldnt work. thats a thing about the gas pump, not the car.

It's not about the DTE, it's more about my guage used to be way more accurate...and I've never had a problem with it "clicking off" during pumping.

I mean, I overflowed the tank at 15.8 gallons!

In the past I would go in when the yellow light JUST came on and put in about 16.8 gallons...in fact, the whole time I've owned the car, I usually put in about 16.7-17.3 gallons at the pump.

This time was totally weird. I usually fill up after going about 360miles...this time I had only gone 340 and the DTE/yellow light had been on for 30 or so miles of it. Just doesn't make sense to me. It came on a full 50miles or so sooner than usual, but it took less gas to fill up. This coupled with the fact that I had to hold the pump the whole time makes me wonder if there's something up.

Hopefully it fixes itself....because I'm scared of dealers!

Hey man I had the same problem with my Z including pumping manual spilling gas all over the place. After a couple trips to the dealer they determined that the secondary sensor in the gas tank was acting up so they replaced it under- warranty. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck man

The light came on in my roadster just as I pulled into the filling station tonight. It took 16.765 gallons to fill it. That was 392.3 miles after the last fillup.

"So what?" you might say. Well, *normally* I fill up before the light comes on, and *normally* it takes about 13.6 gallons to fill it, and *normally* I'll have covered just over 400 miles since the last fillup.

So what am I trying to say? Simply that it varies from tank full to tank full depending on a whole bunch of factors. I wouldn't be concerned if *one* fillup didn't fall in line with your normal experience. If *several* fillups in a row start looking wonky, then you might want to start looking to see if there's a real problem.
