Dealer Prep Charges ??
When I went to my local Nissan dealer to discuss my purchase of a new 350Z, he mentioned a dealer prep charge of about $300 that would be added to the price. I thought that dealers were placing all orders for MSRP plus a set destination charge of about $540 - - period. Has anyone else been charged for "dealer prep"? The only thing that a dealer does is wash the car and call you when it's ready, right?

Don't pay that crap...it's just an add on to get more money.
They are making several thousand dollars on MSRP....washing the damn car and making sure everything is ok should be part of it.
I would refuse to pay that BS. That ranks right up there with paint and rust protection

A$$hole dealer strikes again!!! Definitely don't pay that. You're already sheeling out plenty for the car at MSRP, the least they could do is clean it up for you when you come pick it up.
My dealer didn't try any of that crap whenI ordered and if they try it when I pick up the car, they're sure going to be sorry. I'll raise so much hell with Nissan and their GM, that my sales guy will wish he never even tried it.

Dealer Prep Charge
I didn't pay it because I preordered but dealer told me that all new orders will be charged 950 for it. Might shot their self in the foot ?

I went to a dealer today just to check out what the different colors look like, I ordered a silverstone performance back in august.. it's not a preorder but still... I actually like the way the chrome silver looks more then the silverstone. anyway I digress... I talked to a sales guy there and he wanted 5k over MSRP!!!!!! so needless to say I'm not going to be buying a z from him... or any other dealership for 5k over MSRP. WTF are they thinking? I'm not desperate... I like the car but for 5k I'll wait an entire year! I don't know I'm a bit annoyed right now at the nissan dealers so I might not get the Z at all at this point. anyone know a good dealer in LA or Orange County?

The same dealer that quoted me the $300 "Dealer Prep" charge and a 6 month wait if I order a car from him, also has two 350Z's sitting on his lot. He said that he purchased them directly from Nissan and wants $10,000 over MSRP for them - - but WOW, I can drive one home today !!! This guy is a real pirate. Nobody should ever pay over MSRP. I am going to order my Z from another dealer who is not crazy.

don't pay if you're willing to do all the work yourself, my dealer was not charging anything for prep work. I asked them to not do anything on the car.
I've done most of the work myself, the fabric protection, claying, waxing(Zaino), rubber/vinyl protection, etc, it is a lot of work. i've probably spent about $200 on the wax/303 stuff, but then I bought the stuff in a slightly large quantities.

These things happens all the time. For the reason that the Z is a new car on the market with limited supply on hand. Those sales will do wut ever they can to mark-up the price. Same thing happened to me and my Girl friend when we went and bought her the 03' Mini Cooper. Mark-ups were range from $3000-5000. But then, after getting some infos and helps from Mini forums, we drove to the Irvine Mini and try our chances. It was an hour drive from where we live, but boy! it was worth the drive. $0 mark-up and no "have-to-get" options needed. And that's where we got our Mini. So to shop around and finding useful info from friends, familys, or on the web(forums) really does help.
Hope you will find your Z soon!
