Default Insane car salesman and 2 car wrecks in 1 day

Okay I have a question. I've been going to dealers scoping out 350z's. I found the perfect one, 2004.5, 18 factory chrome, performance model. Thing is , the dealership owner has been driving it and the douchebag put 2500 miles on it. I want the car, it's really sweet. The dealer is giving me the runaround, saying they dont discount 350z's too much, but thats just because I'm 19 and he thinks I'm stupid I suppose. They're offering like 1000 off for the mileage, and only 500 below msrp. I know when I go in there with my old man, he'll rip em a new one and they'll change their tune. But in all honesty how much do you think they should drop off the price for the 2500 miles. I mean thats essentially a used car. By the way this car has been on the lot since before summer started, I know they can come waaaaay off MSRP, probably within 500 of invoice, but this dummy is saying that since it's the end of the year, and no more 350's are being produced except 05's, that they arent giving any significant discounts. This guy even tried to tell me that the 05' wouldn't be in until summer. I know for a fact they're coming in around december and january. I hate scumbag car dealers. I guess it's better than honda, those queers wouldn't even send a sales guy over to talk to me when I was in there looking at some POS 04 Accord coupe. But anyway what do you guys think, how much of a total discount should I be receiving?

PS. An interesting thing happened, on the way back from the dealer we're in my buddies Acura CL, my dumbass friend is accelerating onto the parkway and manages to smash right into the guy who was in front of him. The dude wasn't moving, he was just patiently sitting there waiting to merge and my buddy slams his expensive luxury car right into the back of him like a pud. Anyway, this kids always driven like a total *****, scared to speed, scared to drive a stick, scared of everything. He's a crummy driver and always narrowly avoids getting into stupid wrecks, but this has honestly got to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone do in an automobile. I felt bad though cause he ****ed up his car really good and worse cause we had just come from looking at a beautiful new Z for me. Pretty ironic. But it gets better, on the way too the dealership, I was driving my altima and some dummy in a red jeep or some god forsaken thing rearended me. Didnt do any real damage and I didnt really care so I just let the guy go without getting any insurance or anything. Pretty crazy day.

you sound like a 19 year old. The car can be sold as new if it has never been titled, regardless of the mileage. I would look elsewhere. Good luck.

Yeah...I wouldn't buy from that dealer if all he is going to do is lie to you.....who knows how he drove the car before you and I really doubt that he broke it in properly. You should be able to get a lot off for having that many miles on it!

I just saw a Touring DB 2003 with 3500 miles on it go for $27,500! --At least that is what was on the window before it was gone...could have sold for less!

And hey don't call the Accord V6 coupe a POS it is actually not too bad of a car!

Honda dealers and Nissan dealers are all the same...some are good but most are just trying to get as much money from you as much as possible...
If you are serious about getting the car, go to another bank and get a loan with interest rate you can afford...go into the dealership and tell them u got the check...theyll do their best get u the car u want..
2500 miles is too much..its been driven like its stolen already. Your the customer here, go to a dealership that actually wants to sell u a car...

I was actually in a position similar to yours last year when I bought my brick. It was a dealership driven car with just over 700 miles. Sat on the lot/showroom for over 8 months. I picked it up for $29,000. This was a brickyard track model. You didn't say what the going price for the car was, but I can tell you if it is more than $29,000, then tell them to kiss your a$$. You have bargaining power in your favor since that car will be very difficult to move once the 2005's arrive. The dealer knows this, but they figure they have the upper hand since you want the car. Don't act too excited and feel free to leave at any point in the negotiation if there is something not to your liking. You'd be amazed at how quickly a salesman will "see what he can do" when he sees you heading towards the door.

Sales people get in trouble for letting a customer leave. That's why they change their attitude.

The Owner PAID for that customer to stop by (advertizing costs)

I am assuming everyone knows that the two point of negociating on a NEW car are "COST" (invoice) and "MARKET VALUE" (invoice)

What I would do is present an offer as close to invoice as you think is fair. The dealer wont comit to a figure other than MSRP until you make some kind of comittment to negociating.
(I am not saying that's right, but it is true).

Personally, I wouldn't buy a demo, particularly on a sports car.
It is a "used car" however the "cost" is not any less therefore, the best case seneraio is not affected.

I think you can buy coupes for invoice now.
I THINK, Roadsters are going to 500-1000 under list in Chicago region.

The dealer will negociate more on a car in stock.

Omer.

that demo car has probably been beat on since day one, i wouldn't think for a second the owner took time to break it in properly.... besides they know that car is gonna be hard to sell because of the mileage, AND the '05s are about to be released that's going to make it even harder... if they're still being grimy about selling that particlar car even though they know how hard it's gonna be to get rid of then that shows how grimy that dealer is.... a dealer like that will give you nothing but problems in the long run.... i would go somewhere else without a doubt, after all it's only a performance model w/ chrome wheels.... you can easily buy another Z and slap some wheels (of your choice) on it.... and you'll feel comfortable knowing what's been done to the car... good luck

Never buy a "demo" car, they're always beat up.

Unless I had a 100K mile warranty, I wouldn't even think of a demo car. even then, it'd have to be a "now other way I could get it" scenario, and even THEN I'd hesitate.... Pass.

First of all these guys are trying to take advantage of you. Bring your dad and negotiate a good price.

Second, the demo miles are not that big of a deal. Break-in isn't as important as it used to be...and even if the car was driven hard I don't think it'll make a difference in the long run - and you have a 5yr/50k warranty. Plus, I've yet to see a dealership owner who actually knows how to drive a car fast anyway.

Third, don't rip on your friend. If he's nice enough to drive you around, don't knock him. Makes you look damn cheap. Also, everyone, EVERYONE makes stupid mistakes (esp behind the wheel)- that's life.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you get.

ahh....the Nega-Troll strikes again. What exactly did he say that sounded so "19 year old"? I'm 32 and I wasn't aware that a car isn't officially used until it's been titled. I would agree with him that the dealership, if they're being realistic, should be coming way further down in price than that if they're hoping to sell a car with 2500 miles on it as 'new'. I don't know any sane person that would risk buying a physically used car at that close to regular value.

I bought an 04.5 (made in June) delivered this week for 500 under dealers listed invoice. Take about 13% off sticker and start with that number, you're almost certainly under invoice at that point. If he won't move on price anymore see if you can get additional equipment for free (i.e. free oil changes etc...). I got a 3M clear bra at dealer cost and installed for free! 05's can be ordered today, and will be delivered if ordered now by Nov. 1st or so. Last- read everything you can on this site and be prepared, that will put them in the defensive position where it is usually difficult to negoiate from. Good Luck!

When you sit down to negotiate, they will give you an offer. X it out turn it over and put 2k below invoice and put TTL out the door today. Tell salesman this will be invoice sale and flash 100 dollar bill. Tell him it is his if you get the price you want. He will come back from sales manager with another price. Once again x it out and put 2k below invoice with TTL out the door today. He will come back again with price probably 2k above invoice. Write down 'split cost with TTL out the door today' which is invoice (with TTL). There is your deal. You must be confident and willing to walk out. You need your poker face.

It could have been the excesive swearing and the attention deficit disorder style of the writing.

Anyhoo, a demo car can be sold as new by the dealer as long as it isn't titled. Look it up. It may differ state by state.

I don't reccomend purchasing a demo if you must have 0 miles on a new car, but the warranty is the same as a new car and you might save a few bucks.
I like to use this formula. I've bought a few demos and saved over the years. Never had a problem. I just didn't pay full price.

Your Price = MSRP - $3000 - ( # of miles x $0.15 per mile)

So for a loaner with 5000 miles, the car should be no more than:

Your Price = MSRP - $3000 - (5000 miles x $0.15 per mile) = MSRP - $3750.

Yeah buddy I stopped posting at the political forum a long time ago. It was completely and utterly pointless. I've learned that many conservatives refuse to so much as hear what others have to say. It's like when I was a child and I would get into an argument with another child, and after the other kid would finish ranting and freaking out they'd plug their ears with their fingers and say "I cant hear you nah nah nah" etc. Even when I was a kid I would just laugh and walk away, I decided I should probably do the same thing here. But no hard feelings fella. Anyhow, I didnt say the car WAS used I said it's "essentially used" which I dont think anyone here would disagree on. I'm sure this slimeball didnt break it in correctly, and the tires have lost some tread as well. The thing is guys, I've been searching and I can't find ANY other ppw performance models with the factory chrome wheels anywhere!. Just by coincidence, the dealership closest to my house was the one to have this exact car. No other dealer in a 100 mile radius has anything similar, i've checked. And I can no longer order an 04, and even if I could I wouldnt want to wait 3 months. I'd get an 05 but I waited till the end of 2004 on purpose, so I coudl save some money. I'm actually happy about the car having 2500 miles, because that saves me even more money without actually buying a used car. I just think I should get WAAAAY more off the price. Anyhow, yeah my buddys a good guy but his crash was genuinely stupid. A really blantant mistake on his part which could have gotten many more people hurt. There was a kid in the backseat of the guys car who he slammed into. This kid was like 3 years old. Luckily the impact didnt push him into the merging lane because they never would have come out alive. Cars and trucks fly by on the parkway at like 70 mph. It was a worst case scenario crash, which was totally his fault and could have been prevented had he just been looking where the **** he was going. But anyway, thank god no one was hurt.
