Shift 1, 3, 5 ??
when I first got my Z I shifted all gears in order - then after a while discovered I could shift from 3rd to 5th gear without any problems ( then 6 at higher speeds ). I have most recently became adapt at shiftin 1 , 3 and then 5 - seems to go very smooth if done at the correct speed (which isnt to critical it seems). This is on pretty level pavement ( not hills at least ).

IIRC older Corvettes or Camaros had this 'feature.' It is to increase fuel efficiency. I do this on my car for the hell of it sometimes. You are shifting into a higher gear at lower speeds so your car will have decreased power if you skip gears. It keeps the RPMs lower hence better mpg.

if you acclerate to the top of 1st gear but dont want to acclerate as fast... shift into 3rd and then 4th and coast...
if you were shifting into a gear at an RPM that was too low for the gear like 1st to 5th, that is bad...

That being said, the low-end torque combined with the close 1-5 ratios of the Z makes skipping shifts at high rpm very safe and doable.
my 2 cents.

I've done experiments and my MPGs go up by about 2mpg when I skipshift.
As an example - let's say you want to jackrabbit off the line, and you go:
1st to redline (31mph) - SHIFT
2nd to 6000 (55mph) - SHIFT
6th gear (2500 RPMs).
There is nothing wrong with that. Would you rather I shift
1st to redline (31mph)
2nd to 6000rpm (55mph)
3rd to 5000rpm (55mph)
4th to 4000rpm (55mph)
5th to 3000rpm (55mph)
6th to 2500rpm (55mph)
Is it necessary for me to push in my clutch that many times and shift that many times just to maintain speed and get into 6th gear?
You are telling me you've never cruised down the highway @ 80mph in 6th gear and then downshifted to 4th gear to pass someone? Or downshifted to 3rd gear at 62mph to pass someone?
As long as you know what you are doing in terms of the revs, that's the fastest way to accelerate.
