So I was checking out some 350z news and I see this ad banner at the top...and I see all these performance cars:
BMW M3...nice
Toyota Supra...nice
Nissan 350z...nice
Mercedes SL...nice
VW...WTF? Passat??? WTH is going on?
Reminds me of that song on Sesame Street or the Electric Company..."One of these things is not like the other..."
Sorry VW's suck in my opinion. Over-priced, under-engineered, and very high maintenance.

Exsilio... your right... I do see that all those cars are just ever so sporty... Like that time this Passat raced me in my dads Acura RL... We were both wearing racing helmets for protection....
None the less... way too much time if your noticing Ad banners... I mean those things are just for clutter... no one really clicks them...

I'll be the first to admit that the Passat doesn't belong in that lineup but at the same time I feel really sorry that you think VWs suck. Maybe because I own 2 (Rabbit GTIs, one race car, one waiting for a motor) but I really think VW has come along way from their crap they built in the late 80s early 90s, Corrodo & GTIs excluded.

Well my hatred of VW's is mostly irrational. I do believe most of their cars lack substance..not all, but most...and that is just my biased opinion that is not firmly planted in reality or truth.
But to put a Pissat up there with that lineup? Just wrong.

Wow, that's a harsh opinion of VW.
I have to agree with LS350Z on this one. The newer VWs are nice cars. I'm a big fan of the GTI. (except for front wheel drive... I've always wished they'd release it with rear or awd)
Also, you have to give VW/Audi credit for the 1.8t engine. Not too shabby in it's stock form, and it can be easily modified to make some serious power and torque for such a small engine.

I've owned few VW's in my day (Passat included). But my first real car was an 86 GTI. It was one of the best and most enjoyable cars i've owned to date. It's the original pocket rocket as well as a solidly made car. The Passat was a different story though. However, I wouldn't put a Passat in the same class as the aforementioned cars.

I am not entirely sure which VW model that is, but don’t forget about the new VW Phaeton. Priced in the 60-70 thousand range, oh yeah, and it can hit 180. That’s sort of sporty. If its not the Phaeton then I agree.

I had a 78 POS rabbit that I tweaked with Ottenger parts and had that sucker faster than the newest GTI's (at the time I had the car... about 87? They don't suck but no, the Passat shouldn't be in that line up.
The W12 (pictured VW) is incredible but it'll never see production, it's for show mostly, showing what the future of VW *could* be like. They have made huge jumpo though, and aside from that damn Beetle, they can be pretty cool. Not quite Z cool... but you know...not much is.
(M3's don't count jackass. haha)

M3's need love too.
Don't be a hater Jay. Just cuz I can hit 60 in 4.8. Because women throw themselves at my feet when they see that beautiful car drive up...I am sure it has nothing to do with that lieelt BMW badge.
Blah!
I love the M3, I swear it has almost made me visit a chiropractor though. Car just pulls and pulls.
But for every pic, video or sounds file I see of the Z, it takes the sting out of having to sell my M.
And I did have a VW once, a bug, I bought it for $300, it blew up 3 days later...natch.
