Is it worth trading '03 Z for more HP in '05 Anniversary?
What would the horsepower bump have to be for you to trade in your current Z for the upcoming '05 Anniversary Model? I'm not sure if 300hp would be enough of a difference to make it worth trading and losing the depreciation. Any thoughts?

I would say no way.
Between what you lose in depreciation and the extra cost of an Anniversary model, lets say 10k, although I am sure itll be more than that, you can put in a TT and a lot more!
300hp would be a joke...

adding 13 hp but losing 14 lb ft of torque doesnt seem like a good trade off
you probably couldnt really tell a positive difference except for the higher redline. (7k)
i would really like to drive one of these in the future. the Z's low end torque is what i love the car for. it was the factor in my opinion that set it apart from other japanese cars. you didnt have to rev it to hell to get up and go.
to a point torque is more important in the fact that its what you feel. (ever drive a RX-8)
although i do liek the wheels....unless you wanted a 35th ann as a collector i wouldnt do it
the track model is supposed to have the same out put and the price on those has only gone up $60
my suggestion is a nismo exaust it adds 6hp and ADDS 3 lb ft torque for under a 1K. if your wanting more a little more hp just do something simple like that with an intake that gets you in the ball park of 300. hell you can make up the difference in running 93 or 94 octane gas
by the way i would love to know the 2hp tweak that put the Z over the G

Though it may not ultimately be worth your money, keep in mind that the improvements being made to the '05 Anniversary Z are more than just a remapped ECU and a redesigned plenum. There are significant changes being made to the engine. Here is a quote from the 2005 G35 Coupe press release (the 6MT shares the revamped engine with the '05 Anniversary Z):
"Structural improvements"...increased redline...loss in 10 ft-lb of torque...This certainly sounds familiar. Remember the NISMO S1 engine? If not, here's an excerpt from this Road and Track article:
The improvements made to the 2005 G35 6MT and Anniversary Z directly correspond to the NISMO S1 engine changes. The 2005 production cars do make a little less power and torque with a slightly lower redline. I would attribute this to Nissan's desire for less noise (toned down exhaust and intake) and more reliability (lowered redline) in their production vehicles. Regardless, all the other improvements are there, making the '05 Anniv. Z a stronger car from the factory and a better platform for modding. I've posted this prediction elsewhere but no one seems to notice.
I'm looking to trade my 2003.5 G35C for a Z, so I am confronted by the same dilemma as you. I think the engine changes are definitely worth the money..but the new RX8-like wheels, the two-tone leather seats, and the dubious distinction of driving an "anniversary" vehicle aren't.
I hope that all the trims, not just the anniversary model, receive the engine improvements. Then, I would definitely be getting a 2005 6MT Performance. Unfortunately this doesn't seem too likely.
The G35 Coupe 6MT model receives an additional 18-plus horsepower and a red line increase to 7,000 rpm compared to the automatic transmission-equipped G35 coupes’ standard 280 horsepower and 6,600 rev limit, bringing its power to 298-horsepower. The extra power comes from the addition of electronic exhaust valve timing and numerous structural improvements to the engine block. Torque is rated at 270 lb-ft for the G35 Coupe and 260 lb-ft for the G35 Coupe 6MT.
Residing there is Nismo's S1 engine that produces an impressive 300 bhp at 6400 rpm and 268 lb.-ft. of torque at 4400.
The S1 is basically a pumped-up version of the 3.5-liter V-6 powerplant in the 350Z. Now I am kinda of glad I have to wait 3 years to get a Z, because I figure they will add a Twin turbo by then so I won't have to spend more $$$ on Nismo parts.
I donot think it would be worth it to trade for an anniversary model :
1. Dealers will be asking at least 5000.00 +
2. There is not that much difference in looks--such as equipment--basically you could order these parts and have the Anniversary feel. Granted it won't be the actual--but cars depericiate no matter what. Unless you want to keep it and not drive it.
3. You will loose equity and might be negative on your trade.
4. If you are looking for extra hp, add Nismo products and they will be warrantied by the dealer. MOst, get it in writing.
5. Also, is the extra hp really that important, what I mean is unless you are going to race, what is the point of paying 10000.00 more just for bragging rights/

makes sense the S1 uses the nismo exaust and a nismo air filter (similar to a K&N ) in the stock housing with a very large diameter tube.
the 2005 probably uses stock components of both with the timing change and redline change
i would love to get my hands on that intake tube that and the high flow filter would probably work better than my r tune CAI

Don't know about everyone else, but to me-- an increase to 300hp isn't that special or worthy of being an Anniversary Edition car.
If you're going to put out an anniversary edition, then knock people's socks off! How about a supercharger or Twin Turbo?!!??
Sure it'd cost more but then it'd truly be limited edition with only so many people stepping up to pay the higher price.

most current info is not even the sacred GT-R is going to be turboed in the U.S (V8) so for the Z its out of the question
i think the 96 deal with the over priced 300Z that almost killed the Z forever made them a little gun shy

unless the engine is somehow structurally different; no I would never do it just to get a slightly differently tuned ECU or better intake/exhaust setup. I can replace that stuff on my own for half the price nissan will charge; ignoring the loss I take by selling the Z I already have.
plus; if they did tweak the ECU; who knows what the future holds for you as far as finding further ECU modifications. youll have a 1 of a kind(almost) ECU; I doubt technosquare will bother programming a chip for <1000 vehicles.
