Cool 350Z vs. Corvette C5

OK. I definitely don't want to start a flame war here, but I was curious if anyone has had a lot of seat time in both the Z and Vette? I am going to buy myself something nice for my 40th b-day and wanted some input. I am fairly familiar with the Vette as my father-in-law has one, but have only ridden in a 350Z a few times. Is the handling similar? Braking? How easy is the 350Z to work on? I wouldn't be modding either very much (I already have a couple "slightly modded" cars. Thanks in advance! Ben

As far as handling, I would say it's pretty even. The power advantage will obviously go to the Vette. Maintenance too, I'm guessing. As far as looks, the Z kills it IMO. Quality of the Z probably edges out the Vette in most aspects. Don't know about the brakes on the Vette but the stock ones on the Z should be fine unless you plan on tracking it.

I would go with the Z. The C5 was nice couple years ago... but IMO little outdated... and I don't really like the C6.

but why dont you order a C6 the base model is around the same price as a C5 about 44k. mine will arrive in about 2 1/2 weeks

right now there is a big craze for them and some delaers are asking way over MSRP but if you order one you could get it for about what a 2004 C5 would have cost(with out all the dealer incentives wanting to give the car away of course)
have you gotten either one of your c6's yet? they ahve them on the lots here in atlanta. dont know why they have inventory when other people that ordered months ago are still waiting for theirs??? anyway, if the Z is better in every category over the c5, why did you get a c6. do you think the interior and body are that much changed from the c5? i was thinking about the c6 also. however, all the reports from corvetteforum about the cheap interior and body panels and paint have me thinking that its the same ol corvette. and the track times arent that impressive. they are not even breaking into the 12's in the 1/4 mile. most are in the low to mid 13's even for the manual with z51 pkg.

I think both cars are a bargain for their performance specs. I went with the Z because of the tradition of the car and it was less expensive. It has a unique body style. Th Corvette has the same body style for a long time. I think the Corvette needs a new body style. You will enjoy any with any car you decide to go with.

Thanks guys! The looks are entirely subjective and since I like both, that is kind of a moot point. I'll probably get either car as a leftover, or slighty used. The C5s I'm considering are around $35K and the 350Zs around $26K. Anyone track both? Any more input would be great! Ben

i asked this before purchasing mine, the reponse was:
*meh vettes are so pedestrian.

it's totally true. the bottom line is that if you want to pay over 10 gs more for greater horsepower alone, go with the vette.

...you will get no love at all in comparison though. i would suspect the reason people buy cars like this is to get looks and love. my boy gets absolutely ignored in his vette, i get adored in the z.

people scare the living **** out of me sometimes ripping up next to me and screaming something like "oh hell yeah" or 'break them mustang dicks" ...i know, i was extremely confused by that comment also.

I think you should get the Z hands down. C5 looks dated, and is just way too big IMO for a sports car. Why not decide between a 350Z and a C6 instead? It's a tougher choice between those two...

C5 is just "the old body style Vette" now.
C6 is a beast and will spank teh Z on the track and drag.

I still have to say that I would pick the> I put thousnads of miles on my bros old 99 C5 Vette and while it has quite a bit more power than the Z is just a....ouch...dare I say this...the WHite Trash dream mobile. The Ferrari of the trailer park if you will.

Good luck..both are great cars!
