Advice Please!!! NEW brakes at 15k?!?
Just dropped my car off at the dealer for my 15K service, and I get a call four hours later saying I need new brake pads for $350!!!! Is this normal? I thought brakes would last longer than that! Thanks for you help guys / gals.

If you're driving it like you stole it, yes it can be normal. I know a few other members who have changed their pads at 15K.
Depending on how tech savvy you are, you could save yourself some $$. Buy the pads from an online vendor and use the brakepad install guide posted on the site to install them yourself. It'll save you about $250.

You could teach a monkey to change brake pads ... it is VERY easy and you only need minimal tools. Do a search on the repairing forum (i think) there are step by step instructions on how to do it, if you've never done it before.
You can get Hawk HPS which is a great low cost/low dust street pad for about $120-150 (for front and rear) and change them yourself in about 30m - 1h.

I'm getting my front brakes and rotors replaced tomorrow. I've got approximately ~22k miles on my car. I guess I can deal with the brake pads being worn but is it normal for the rotors to go too? They just started squealing last week and I finally took it to the dealer just because it was getting annoying. They had my car for 5 days before they told me that my car had brake problems. Duh! That was why I brought there in the first place. They estimated ~$500 to replace the pads and rotors and that it would take a few days to fix. I've already paid for a car rental for the last few days and they want to keep my car more days. I spoke with another mechanic and they said they can do the same job for $350 w/OEM Nissan parts and that it would only take them a few hours. The dealer says that if I go to another mechanic for the work that it would void my warranty on that part of the car.

these places are really trying to rip you off. I had to replace my pads at 23k but I can see it being near the squealers at 15k. but those prices are ridiculous, especially if they are just talking about the front pads. It is rather easy to do yourself but if you dont want to do that search around and find a better price. thats a lot of money for a brake change
