What is this mystery bracket for?

Am I missing something? There's a box (what's it for?) on the right side of the car, but on the left, I've got this bracket that doesn't seem to be connected to anything. Any ideas?
the "box" is the EVAP unit, and it's part of the emissions/gas recirculation system. The picture you show almost looks like an anchor for a tow hook in the event you had to pull the car onto a flatbed from the rear of the car.

You cant put the car on a flat bed rear first, it will scrape the front....

it looks like a tow hook to me. dunno what else it could be
Wouldn't a tow hook be dead center on the car?
And thanks for the pic. That is a great place to stick the hook of my bungie cord when I need to transport items that don't allow me to close my hood all the way!
I used to use the tailpipe hangers.

Tow hook, normally if they put it on the sides, they will put one on each side. It is in the center in the front, so just tow the car in the front and strap it down in the rear with that hook if there is only one in the rear.

Makes sense to design a quick release point while designing the car. Less chance of screw up by the shipper.
Who really knows for sure?
