Default Dealer wouldn't let me change oil at 1100km???

Hi all,

Is this weird?
I went to Willowdale Nissan in Toronto, Canada today for my first oil change. I'm currently at 1100km. He wouldn't let me do it! He said I was wasting my money.

He also mentioned that there is some 'special additive' from factory to help with the break-in period? I don't believe in this 'special additive'.

Anyhow, I think I'll take it back at 1500km.

Any thoughts?

any reason why you want to change your oil so soon?

as to why they didn't want to do it, i don't know, maybe because the first oil change is free for you and they don't feel like doing free stuff at that moment?

Well, I figure, the first 1000km has the most engine wear, resulting in lots of particles in the oil and filter. Thus, changing the oil and filter to fresh new stuff, can only mean better filtration for the rest of the break in period.

I didn't get any 'free' oil changes with my car.

You're right. I saw metal shavings in my first oil change. btw: My dealer knew and approved of the oil change I did at 1000m.

Dont forget to save your receipts

I changed mine at just over 2000 km, the dealer tried to talk me out of it. They did it after I insisted. Yes, I got 1 change for free too.

Yah, I think I'll be going back tomorrow, and DEMANDING an oil change.

Go figure, they're making money, but they don't wanna do it.

Yes, no sythetic for me, not until 10,000km.

This service guy actually said don't use synthetic at all, because it will harm the seals....

Strange...

Thanks all!

and what does your service guy know? There are a plethora of performance cars that come from the factory with synthetic.

Is that what you do up in Toronto when there is a NHL player lock out? Complain about Oil changes?

(I'm allowed to rip on Toronto, i'm a huge Leafs fan)

When I brought in my Z in for my first oil change at 800 miles they tried to talk me out of it for 5 mins before they agreed. I needed it changed since i was going on a 3700 mile trip and i wanted some fresh oil.

When I bought my Z the dealer told me to bring it in between 1000 & 1200 miles for the first oil change. Free. Then every 3000 miles after.

Kind of makes a person nervous when someone at a car dealership tries to talk you out of spending $$$$. Did he suggest your money would be better spent on scotchguard and undercoat?

Many new cars come with an additive in the oil to assist in break in of the engine. Most new car manufacturers say that you should wait until about 5000 mile for your first oil change and then go every 3000 after that. Unless you're car has been sitting for a few months, there is absolutely no need to change it at 1100km, especially for the first oil change. Listen to your service tech.

My tech (A guy that played on our church league softball team) told me that they dont use breakin oil on the Z.

Maybe he's mis-informed, but I he wouldnt intentionally mislead me....
