Amazing... that much damage and you walked away.

Regardless of whether the side airbags fired, that's simply amazing. I think I'd like to thank all those who work on the safety engineering teams of both Nissan and all the other manufacturers for taking the time to make what many of us consider a fun hobby a bit safer as well.

It wasn't that long ago that a sports car in an accident was not much better off than an empty beer can at a frat party. Maybe we should all be grateful for those extra couple hundred pounds in cabin reinforcement?

Here's to wishing a speedy recovery, and thanks for sharing your experience on a public forum.

Got a question
Was you wearing glasses during accident? What happend to them when front airbug hit you?
Comments from any other member will be appreciated. I'm wearing glasses, and that question bothers me for a long time.

I was wearing glasses and they are OK. Police and Doctors said the glasses should have been broken by the impact of the air bag. Don't know, maybe they came off in the accident.

I also will be meeting with a Nissan Rep. tomorrow and will express our concerns with this matter. What is the use of the side airbags and head curtains if they will not deploy in an accident as Jeremy had.
I'm glad to hear this. Nissan definitely needs to know. An accident like this should have deployed every airbag in the car and all of us should be concerned with Nissan's response to this fact. I want to know why they didn't. I paid an extra $599 for the side airbags just because I was concerned about getting hit on the side. And its not a money issue, its safety I'm concerned about, my wife's and mine. In looking at Jeremy's car, my wife could have been killed w/o the side airbags if she was in the passenger seat.

Sorry about your car, glad you are ok.

Did nissan come and check out why the side airbags didn't deploy yet?

glad to hear you're getting better.

i think the side airbags didn't go off on the passenger side because there was no one sitting in there...at least in my brother's acura when there's no one sitting in the passenger seat the airbags won't go off on that side.

Not even in a wreck as severe as Jeremy's? That's not a comforting thought, if the passenger side was pushed in much further, it would have smashed him from the side. If that is the way the side bags are intended to deploy, my feeling of safety in the car has gone down a few points.

Default Hope you have a quick and safe recovery

Get well soon. THe car can be replaced. It is intresting to see the side impact on the doors and the Side airbags didn't go off you say. I would look into that. But get well and worry about that later. Glad you are okay. And hope all is well.

Most airbag systems are calibrated to sense vehicle deceleration corresponding to a frontal collision at speeds of 12-20 mph (depending on the car and whether you're wearing your seat belt).

The side impact airbags deploy separately from the front airbags. They deploy in a side collision. A side or front air bag may fail to deploy if the deceleration forces in the required direction are below the threshold.

This complex collision is a perfect example. He hit a car, spun around and another car hit the side on an angle.

But it certainly does LOOK like the side airbags should have deployed...who knows.
