Default Good day turns sh1tty

Had my car in stereo shop for 3 weeks getting sub box glassed in. Pics attached. I left shop and went around corner to get a soda. Pulled into parking space and forgetting how low the front air dam is, hit the concrete wheel stop. Couldn't have been going more than 2 mph but cracked the fiberglass right through. I didn't have the car back for more than 2 minutes. I read that fiberglass was easily and cheaply repairable. Well just got back from a really good bodyshop and they want $653. I'm going to get it fixed but will make sure to park 2 - 3 feet away from any curb in front of car. Be nice to me - I feel horrible enough already.

Hey, look at it this way, at least it wasn't a flat tire. Then you'd really be screwed!!!

Don't feel bad man, it happens. The $653 will be hard to part with, but it's worth it. Can't drive around in a busted up Z!

The fiberglass isn't the hard part... It is realitvly easy to fix, if you know what you are doing. The hard part is going to be matching the paint, and the labor. That is why it is going to cost so much. I have done MANY fiberglass repairs to my brother's race bike body work. even pieces that have been down hard can be repaired. Actually cracks are easier to fix than scrapes. But they will have to repaint that area. sorry for your loss. the hatch looks awesome though.

Way cool on the stero.

I have not busted anything but I've sure scrapped the underside of the front bumper more than once. Also, I've put a couple scraps on the front right rim by not judging how close I was to the curb correctly. Turns out the front wheel is more
"outboard" then on my previous cars.

Well guys,
Car is going into shop tomorrow. I would've had the entire front cover re-painted to make sure it matched except that there is a 3M invisigard covering the entire area. I'm only having the bottom part peeled away and shop is sure they can blend in the color. We'll see in 3 days. I'll post pics of the outcome.

BTW - Some may recognize this car. It used to be Jeff's at Performance Nissan. Don't tell him because he may just come down to San Diego and wring my neck. He took such good care of it and look what I did in the 2 months I had it.

Unhappy sorry

That's just wrong . . . I went through a period with my Celica (prior vehicle) where evertime I turned around something got dinged or scraped etc. I had about 4 incidents in the first 6 months.

My problem is so much of car's time is spent in assorted parking garages! Kiss of death to a sweet car.

Hang in there, we've all felt that pain!

I've inspected Jeff's Z closely the time he ventured down here to San Diego to our car meets. That Z is definitely a nice car. It's crazy to know you're going to make even more improvements and upgrades to it.

Those concrete wheel stops are a pest. I've nailed one when I first had my lip installed, but luckily it was urethane so it bent and pressured the lip upward leaving a little gash underneath.

Nowadays you'll see my car like three or four feet away from those things. It's better to be sure than to be sorry.

A good tip is: If theres a shiny car next to you as you're pulling into the spot you can always see how far your lip is away from the block. It's always a challenge to see how close I can get. Record being a quarter of an inch.

Nice trunk btw. Hope to see that beautiful Lemans around the area again and goodluck with your fix.

That stereo is nice as hell, so that should at least make you feel a little better. Don't beat yourself up man, it happens to the best of us.

That sucks, I can feel your pain
It can always be repaired, though

BUT, you've got an awesome Z. So, how would you describe Jeff's former Z in terms of power?

Ouch! It seems that everytime you go somewhere like down the street for drink or grap something to eat, $h!T happens! It not only hurts your feelings but the wallet as well.

Are urethane bumpers available for the new Z yet, hehe on the Z32 I've bumped into a few curbs and not one crack yet. Fiberglass is stiffer and doesn't give as much as the Urethane bumpers.

Kit, get the Nismo Bumper from Greg at Mossy. I believe it's Urethane too. Good Luck.

It's just a replacement lip ... Kit and I have full new bumpers ... not that easy to replace. Good luck on the repair man ... but I will say that is pretty pricey ... even the performance Nissan body shop .. who is known to be $$$ was cheaper than that for my whole bumper.

Stereo looks great though. I look forward to listening to it sometime soon.

unfortunately you learned the hard way how far into a spot you can pull ...

just gotta realize we have small cars, so it doesn't matter if we pull in far .... we don't stick out.
