NAV system failure
I was driving along when suddenly my NAV system froze in one spot. I figured since it's a computer it just needed to be re-booted, so I turned the car off and restarted it. Then, it came up as a 'disc error' on the screen and that's all it would say. When I took it to the dealer, they said that this is the first instance of this ever occuring at their dealership. I ejected the disc in the DVD drive, but the problem persisted. They told me that my entire NAV system has to be replaced!! There is no charge, but, I don't want them to open up my dash if only the drive and not the whole system needs to be replaced. To me, that's just a recipe for rattles down the road. Has anyone else encountered this??
I agree. I would not want them to just replace the entire system without some diagnostic work. What if it's just the DVD player, and that's all that needs to be replaced? You might try a different dealer, or contact Nissan. -- Jim
Have you tried using a DVD cleaner on the player and disc first? Also, try changing the disc, it might just be a damaged disc. Do you drive with your driver window down a lot? Maybe it's dust that collected in the player.

I've already seen this once on my new 350Z (got it last Saturday), and several times in my 2003.5 G35 Sedan.
While researching the 350Z, I came across a TSB for the navi system...and found the G35 has the same TSB. I haven't taken either in yet, but apparently there is a component that needs to be changed if you have this intermittent problem.
In the interim, I've always fixed it by ejecting the DVD and putting it back in. You may need to do it a couple times. (That is, in response to the "Disc Error" or "Wrong DVD Version" [or soemthing like that] error messages.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I kicked out the DVD a couple of times and the problem persisted. Then, the other day the system just started working again on its own. I just assumed the techs at the dealer did a proper diagnosic, but, that could be a bad assumption.
