The NEW Mustang has the same driver train as the OLD mustang.
IMHO opinion a stock mustang GT 6 speed vs. a stock 350z 5 speed will come down the driver ability...
the torque on the Mustang is it's stronger point.
Z is just was more effiecent than the Mustang, that's all.

all mags have stang quicker so to me it is not a drivers race unless one driver really sucks.
I bet the stand will be cheaper to mod as well. Too bad I am love the Z because the stand seems to be a much improved stang.
I see this as an advantage to all car owners because Nissan will have to step it up to compete.

O well, Turbo the Z!!! You don't see that many turbo kits for the mustang.
Then again you could probably put on I/H/E for the mustang and gain 35hp. LOL.
All I know is the mustang will be more common than the Z in a couple more years.

The 05 stang is putting down 275rwhp w/ a wider power band than the 350z. It also weighs 250 lbs more. I'd say the stang would win hands down, but the 350z would make a showing.
W/ a set of springs and shocks the car should handle decent. In stock form, it will push bad. I wouldn't knock the stick axle too much, the new 3-link system is pretty decent. It's similar to what serious road course racers put on their Mustangs. It won't be as jittery around bump corners or have the bind issues that last setup did ("quadra link" aka "quadrabind").
At any rate, don't sell the car short.

I'll say driver's race with an edge to the 05 GT.
Now, the 2005 Track Z vs. an '05 GT would be even more interesting. Especially if the 300HP Z's are able to retain power all the way to redline.

From what I have seen the two are within two to three tenths in the 1/4 and same for 0-60. It would come down to driver most likely. But it's still a FIX OR REPAIR DAILY car.

well i test drove one today.
i only drove it like 5 miles cause the dealer didnt want miles on it since i wasnt buying that particular one.
the first observation is the clutch feels very different than the Z it takes alot of pressure to push it down and it sprins back up with alot of force when you let it out.
the shofting was smooth and the throws felt very short. (yes i said it short thorws in a ford) it wasnt a premium like i have ordered so the interior didnt have any aluminum accents so it was very plain.
as far as the looks it was good it didnt have the upgrade wheels and was blue but all in all i got a good impression of what mine was going to feel like.
the exaust wasnt really loud it was deep but not overly loud. (louder than my C6 which i guess sold out to the euro crowd)
like i said i really didnt get to drive it more than around the block but i was impressed for a car that listed at 25K!

Z owner for two years now. I just drove a new Mustang GT this weekend. Very fun car to drive, especially with stick. Shifts are smooth and quick, tons of lowend torque that you feel in your pants. Not so with Z as the Q10 torque band is much wider and smoother. The pony car will snap your head back and pin you to the seat. Ride is great, solid feel, very well placed on the road. Live axle is great feel also. Very solid feel around corners. I give it high marks, but it is plain compared to my 03 Touring with Nav, auto climate, digital gauges and the like. They are different cars so it is hard to compare. I would love to have both because I always wanted a 67 pony car, but hard to give up the Z for.

I was going to get the new 05 Mustang GT until I realized it was just going to be like previous model years and everyone and their mom would own one. I mean come on, v6's with a 17k msrp price? Ford should have made the new 'stang in somewhat limited numbers, just so they don't end up like older stangs, but that's just me.

it definately should have the advantage, they are putting down 270+ to the wheels pretty consistently right now. There is a tuner that has already gone low 12's in a bolt on one too
