I don't know if there is a tsb for this or just a part of owning the z, but whenever I do moderate to hard acceleration in the z from a standstill the rear washer sprayer streams a big old line of washer fluid down the middle of the rear glass. Normally this is of no concern, however if your vehicle is clean and this happens it makes the rear look like crap. Anyone else have this issue? I think my z needs a pair of depends !

 

No, I would day your Z is DEFINITELY different. In Arizona we probably wouldnt worry about that problem - just not fill the tank for the rear window washer. It seldom rains here! Had my Z since Feb - havent used that rear wiper yet! (not to say I havent used the front one a few times)

 

Ah, did a search, looks like this has been discussed previously, however, no definitive word on if there is a fix or if this is another z characteristic that we need to live with. I might just disconnect the whole washer wiper setup in the back since I never use it.

 

I think one tank supplies both the front and rear sprayers. Now the question is, if I was to disconnect the rear sprayer and wiper controls could I tap into the stalk to have some other function? What I don't know. Some folks on different forums were hooking up intercooler sprayers and homelink to the wiperstalk, however I have homelink and no intercooler. . .yet.

 

I've had my Z for almost 9 months now and I had the leak happen yesterday. I've never used the sprayer until a couple of weeks ago when it was raining. It never happened until then. It's really annoying. Something new to tell my dealer, I guess.

 

Mine's in the shop today for that and a couple other minor annoyances. It will be interesting to see what if anything they do about it.

Gotta love this conversation though...

"Only when I accelerate at full throttle in first and slam it into second".

Yup, that's just what I am afraid of: some meat popsicle at the dealer tearing up my new Z. This is the worst part of owning a new car, visiting the dealer and having apathetic, obtuse ***** manhandle our rides. Let me know how it goes, I might just disconnect the tube, or perhaps I will zip tie the tube to put a kink in it, reduce the flow back there.

 

Actually, the manual states that it happens on purpose. It is used as a jet propultion system to enhance the acceleration .

 

there is some kind of check valve that is defective. I've read this on forums before...I think its a common problem on the older cars....

 

I have noticed this too.... REALLY annoying. I have a SB, and right after I clean it I usually drive with somewhat more.... ahem... "spirit". And then when I get home I gotta get out the quik wipe detailer and microfiber to get it off before I get water spots. I hate that.

 

I talked to the SA a little while ago, naturally they couldn't reproduce the problem.

I never use it anyway, I'll just drain the tube and leave it like that so there will be nothing to come out. Maybe I'll put a little stopcock inline so I can turn it on later if necessary.

 

I get this too. Very annoying and generally only happens AFTER the car gets waxed and shined!

Might just cap it up with the tip of a condom or something?

I think all of them do it, some of us just know how to shift quick enough to make it do it.

 

this used to happen to my z (early 04) all the time and bug the shiat out of me. it does not happen anymore.

here's why it happens: when you're taking your right hand off the wheel to shift gears, you're tapping the control bar on the right side of the steering column, which activates the rear spray pump for a fraction of a second (it's way too sensitive). this is more likely under hard acceleration, when your body is being jerked back and forth while shifting. so, don't do that anymore and your car will remain clean.

Nope.... it still happens to me, even if I leave my right hand on the shifter. Not centrifugal force either cause the stalk has to be pushed forward to turn on the rear sprayer. Nice thought though.

 

just noticed it last night after a month...

i don't think it can handle the speed, may look into pinching the tube somehow in the service manual...it'll probably be a pain in my arss

 

This used to happen to my '98 Integra GSR...I hated it...cause it was a black car, so I feel your pain.

I haven't had it happen on the Z...And I'm quite happy about that!

I use my rear washer often too...so not sure what's up with your cars.
