Default Brake Upgrade Options.

I was having a great track day at Aroyo Seco Motorplex in Deming, NM when at around 20 laps, my brakes crap out on me. Down Shifting and pulling the e-brake at about 100, I finally pitted and notice that my front calipers were extremely hot.

Upon further investigation, I noticed small metal shavings on the inside of the wheel. Turns out I was chewing on my rotors a little but nothing severe. But My front calipers are now gold instead of silver from the heat burning the paint on them. Plus I basically liquified my pads because there was black goo seeping out of the calipers that when it finally cooled, it became solid again.

I'm gonna see if I can get my brakes fixed under warranty which I highly doubt will happen but I might get lucky.

My plans are for the Stop Tech Stage 2 Brake Upgrade. The kit comes with Motul Racing brake Fluid, Stainless Brake Lines, Hawk HPS Pads, and your choice of rotors Slotted or Cross Drilled rotors.

I need helping of chosing slotted or cross drilled.
Anyone know the pro's and con's of each?

I may have burned my brakes on the track but I got a chance to be on the track with a sexy red italian stud. It was like having a great day and a crappy one at the same time.

From what I've been reading here, the drilled rotors do a good job getting rid of the heat, but they tend to crack since there are holes all the way through em. Slotted rotors are better because they give you increased performance and don't crack like drilled rotors will.

Do some searching on here for more info.

I've done some research before. I knew that the drilled ones have a tendency to crack, but they do ventilate better. The only ones I know that won't brake are brembo because they are manufactured with holes instead of drilled. I heard that the slotted stop better because of gas expulsion.

If anyone has either, let me know how you feel with your new rotors.

The good news is that Nissan fixed my pads and rotors under warranty. I was surprised. I refered to it as spirited driving and they believed me. Thank God.

Take a look at these: http://www.dba.com.au/default.asp
I have the DBA 5000's. When/if the rotors warp or go bad you can just replace the rotors since they are two piece. I believe the 5000's are rated to ~630 degrees. They have a coloring system on them so you can monitor how hot they are running. Hawk HPS pads is a good idea too.

If you're going to do track days, just get Stoptech's Big Brake kit. You'll need it. The stock rotors are way too small for track work. They just don't have the heat capacity to deal with a race track. One more thing, you'll get a better response if you post on the wheel/suspension/brake forum.

Send me a PM and I can give you all the details on my experience with the kit.

I know that's the theory, but have you actually heard of anybody toasting the Stage 2 kit with an occasional track day? Obviously the BBK is better, but at what level of track use is the Stage 2 and similar upgrades really not 'good enough'? I know you won't find that limit on the street.

I used the rough equivalent of the StopTech Stage 2 upgrade (steel lines and Motul, stock rotors, much better track pads than the HPS...which isn't really even a track pad) on the OEM non-Brembos at the track and fried them on a regular basis. After about 9 track days like that, I stepped up to the StopTech 13.1" front kit. I can tell you that there is a huge improvement found in the full kit over the Stage 2 upgrade. It's night and day.

If you'll only be doing an occasional track day, then it might not be worth it to you to go full boat and get the BBK. But I'd say that if you'll be doing more than 3 track days a year, then you should seriously consider taking the plunge for the BBK.

Good luck with your decision.

The Stage 2 upgrade is going to help you get the most out of the factory brake system...

Your brakes will cool quicker when they are moving with the aero rotors... The pads are going to give you less dust and higher tempreture handleing... And the brake fluid will not boil on you so you will get good brake response...

Upgrading the front to a big brake kit will give you better clamping force and a wider variety of brake pads for street to extreem track use... Customers who have upgraded from their Track Brembo's to 13" stop tech brake kits or even 14.1" have called it a huge improvement over the stock... The difference isnt seen so much on daily driving, but once you are on the track that extra braking that is there at your disposal is a huge help...

PM me for instock big brake kits front / rear / or full 4 wheel kits... as well as Stage 1 and 2 kits...

Thanks for the input guys.

Are the stock brake lines made of stainless steel?

I'm curious if not I have to buy some.

I decided on the cross drilled rotors. I don't drive my car on the track much. I think they look good too. Plus I got a sweet deal on em.
