In the new issue of Motor Trend there is a brief article that states the new VQ37 motor will be installed in the 2009 Z. They also state that the body style will be evolutionary, not a radicle change. This article pretty much says the same thing. Ya baby, lighter with more HP http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=121314#5
I love the current body style so evolutionary is great.
The little exterior changes look sharp....If they made those grand touring wheels standard on every model that would be even more weight loss if those are forged....nice.
I'll believe the "lighter" part when I see it. Nissan has been adding more and more fat to their newer models *cough, G coupe, cough* and I anticipate that they will do the same with the Z34.
I read another article in Evo I think that stated Nissan is requiring all suppliers to reduce component weight. Maybe that is the goal. More HP less weight, nice!
First off: that article is old. It's from June 20th. Second, Edmunds is wrong - that isn't a 2009 350Z mule, it's a much smaller car using a Z shell. And 3600lbs? And if the Z is "lighter", it'll be 20-30lbs lighter at most. At one point, Nissan said that the new Altima would be lighter too...it is, by 40lbs. Wow.
The point is even though Edmonds is a couple months ago. MT is saying the same thing with maybe a little more detail. Is the 37 motor in the future? Looks like it is. What will it look like? Likely may not change too much. That is good in my opinion. Nissan is trying to reduce weight so lets hope they do.
Nissan better do something with the 350Z. Just look at what BMW has done with the M3 -- V8 with 420hp.
The Z will never compete against the M3. The current E46 M3 costs what $57,000 or so? And now the V8 M3 will no doubt be more than that. Nissan will not and can not go into that price range for the Z. They did that in the mid 90's and it killed the entire line. They produced a great car but they priced themselves out of the market. That becomes even more true with the advent of the luxury car division of Infinity. Infinity will and can sell the cars in that price range. That is exactly the reason why they are finally bringing the GT-R to America. Infinity has the prestige to sell cars in the price range of the new M3 with the same or better performance.
The point is the NEW article in MT. Have a look at what they are saying in the latest issue
And the info is still old and wrong. I have that issue. They're stupid, because they're printing that the baby Z mule is actually the 370Z, which it isn't. It's supposed to be the new 240sx replacement, and will be a 4-cylinder RWD with a 200HP engine - likely a tuned QR25 from the SE-R Spec-V.
^yeah. "hints at, it looks like, don't be surprised if, we think that, would likely appear, we're guessing something" C'mon guys, it's all just speculation yet - some folks are talking like there are facts out on this car and other possible new models by Nissan......
