Default 2009 Z getting N/A VQ37VHR

Just found this article, don't know if its a repost, but it states the next generation 350z (Z34) is getting an N/A version of the new GTR's engine.

I knew it, but the GTR motor is the VR38DETT, not the VQ37VHR

That would sure make swapping a GT-R motor in a bit easier. Though, as previously mentioned, the VQ37VHR is the new G-series motor. I'd be happy with either as long as considerable weight is shed..

Im a little disappointed that the did not mention anything about the weight of the car. Wider stance for better handling, new higher performance engine, nothing about the weight?

haha, I would take that article like a grain of salt. R36 GT-R? LOL! Don't even have pictures of the real GT-R either.

I'd like to see a 400HP ZTT in 2010 using a down tuned GTR 3.8, limited production.

i bet it'll weigh more than Z33's. probably as much as G35's, maybe more. I'm really hoping it loses weight though.

So is that engine a inline six like the GTR or a V6?

Both the new G-Series motor (VQ37VHR) and the new GT-R motor (VR38DETT) are now V6's. It was the previous GT-R generations that had the inline-six RB26DETT. One could deduce, the next Z will definitely have a V6. The only question is displacement (3.7L or 3.8L)...

If history proves it's self, using the average of increases and decrease, the new Z will have …
2009 Z 3.69L ~ 346hp ~ 303tq ~ 3651lbs

One thing is for sure, the Z has always increased in size, so it can fit BIG Americans.

IF the Z keeps the same size, it NISSAN will need to use less common materials to keep the relative weight or lower it, which drives the profit margin negatively, which means the Z will cost more.

If I were NISSAN I would to this:

Regualr Zs...
1. Lower the body size by 9% using common materials.
a. This lowers the nominal weight to ~ 3100 pounds allowing engine weight increases to compensate for the 3.8L (350hp)
2. Add the 3.8L N/A to all trim levels

RESULT: 8.8:1 weight to power ratio. an improvement over the current 11.4:1 ratio.

Specialty Zs...
1. Keep the previous mentioned reduced body size
2. Use less common (lighter) materials in that body size to reduce weight another 9%.
a. Giving the Z a ~2800lb chassis
3. Two trim options
a. 380Z RS - 3.8L N/A = 8:1 weight to power ratio
b. 380Z RSTT - Add the TT package from the GTR - 400HP = 7:1 ratio.

I would think the purported shortened wheelbase of the next Z testing mule shows Nissan is trying to lower the curb weight?

It would be a first ever weight reduction for the model line, but... definately the right direction! :-)

A de-tuned N/A GTR motor thats what I'm talking about even at 3300lbs though I'm hoping 3100lbs with a 346-350hp engine that suckers gonna fly, probably doing 4.8-4.9 0-60 and low 13s or 12.8 1/4 runs. Man that will be pi$$ing in tall cotton, if it stays under $30k-35k. I'd settle for a 330hp G37 engine but the GTR 3.8 would be better and more big brother looking out, sorta.

I'm saving my pennies now it be nice if I could keep my Z33 Redline and buy a Z34 in Black. But thats wishful dreaming, one gotta go, bye Z33.
