Like Greg06 stated, its not all about speed. I'll sacrafice a few tenths of a second for more fun

.
Then how much would you have to spend in mods to gain those tenths back?
That's like throwing many away imo. speed costs $$$$, especially on the z.
Also, the manual z's haven't been exactly trouble free.
Whatever tranny they offer, I hope to see some major improvements.

I would't think that Nissan would be so narrow minded that it would only offer one type of transmission. It would lose many loyal, and new buyers. I would think that a 6 speed would be standard, and any other would be a option, like autos are now.

I'd much rather have a dsg than 6MT. Traffic is insane in the mornings and afternoons. Being faster than your MT, will be a big bonus.

Once again, I'll sacrafice a little performance for a more enjoyable, funner drive. Many of us would. Speed isn't everything.

Only those who have really owned and experienced a 6MT are the ones who really know what's good for them. Some people (not you, just speaking in general) have never owned nor driven a 6MT and they automatically close their eyes to another possibilty. It's pretty easy to know which ones they are by their responces.

Bottom point: Nissan not adding an option for a 6MT, like they did with the GTR, is a terrible mistake. I have absolutely no problem with automatics and DSG-like transmissions. (I'm sure I will one day own a DSG-like tranny in the future...just not on the weekend car ). What ever is right for the driver is what matters. But forcing them with only one option is almost insulting when buying sports car.

While I would be all for a DSG tranny (and I have driven 6MTs), I do agree it should not be the ONLY tranny option.

I may change my mind at the last moment!

Agreed DSG/DCT and a plain jane manual should be the only choices. While the traditional auto is sent out to pasture..

Simple answer. No.

A high tech DSG trans would be a great option to a manual trans though.

I've been driving MT cars for 35years, but my next car will have a twin-clutch tranny. You still get the fun/choice of choosing gears, plus faster acceleration, plus easier rush-hour driving. The only thing missing is the clutch pedal.

I drove the R32 with the VW/Getrag DSG and it is fantastic. If the Nissan DSG is anything like the VW/Getrag the auto will be faster than any manual.

Of course you miss the engine braking and control but the DSG is F1 quick!

You don't miss any engine braking and control in a dual clutch car. The engine is still connected to the wheels.

The only true miss will be the heel and toe.

That and the left leg/right arm workout. Guess we'll be in proportion now.

Time to get those fingers limbered up.

i wont buy a gt-r for the sheer fact that theres no manual transmission. wouldnt buy any "fun to drive" car if I cant shift.

I rented a ferrari 360 spyder in vegas a few months ago, ****ing paddle shift. I hated it.

One thing to keep in mind if they do ofer a DSG/DCT option is the added maintenance cost.
If you check out any of the VW forums IIRC it's a 40K (not sure if miles or Km) interval on fluid change & service.
A DIY is possible but not easy like an MT or even an AT.
It's pretty expense to get done at the stealer.

& anyone thinking about a long term relationship....
if you ever have to replace those wet pack clutches.... OMG $$$$fugedaboudit.

I think it would be good for Nissan to do it and I can see it coming. More people drive auto compared to manual. So if the next gen Z is only offer in auto only then it would appeal to a broader range of potential customer while also cut down the complication in manufacturing process. I'm not saying that auto car is easier to make than manual car, but it just that Nissan will only have to work with just one type of transmission.

Also, I don't mind a paddle shifter....it's easy and convenient. Hell, even Lambo will stop making manual car, so why not Nissan?

People are just stubborn. They don't like changes.
