Default Will the 370Z be offered with auto trans only?

I understand the pros and cons of both types of transmissions, but
I'm a fan of manual transmissions in performance cars. While I'm sure the dual clutch auto trans in the GT-R is really great, I'd be disappointed if they didn't offer a 6 speed manual in the 370Z.

What do you guys think Nissan will do? Remember, they only offer an Automatic in their flagship sports car (GT-R) and now the 370Z may receive that transmission too. Will they scrap the manual trans in the new Z?

Doubt it... As you already mentioned the GTR is their flagship model.

The Z is their rank and file, foot soldier, bread and butter model. So Im thinking there will be a choice, maybe a dsg and manual trans (ala e92 M3). But if they go that route, its a safe bet that the traditional auto trans will be history.

No 6MT on a sports car = FAIL.

It's always good to have both the options for a high-tech automatic (DSG-like) and a 6MT. But removing a 6MT as an option like they did for the GTR is almost insulting for many enthusiasts.

So would you pick a 6MT over an auto even if the 6MT gives you slow times?
I think not.

Its not all about speed... Drivers feel and overall fun are major factors as well.

Like Greg06 stated, its not all about speed. I'll sacrafice a few tenths of a second for more fun

+1

Like the BMW M5. There is no advantage of the 6-speed to the SMG III, but they decided to add it as a option for the 2nd year (2007) because american's went nuts and complained.

They only brought it for the american market

I agree. But, I would take the AT; it would have to be a DSG AT however...

Not all paddles are the same. I'd say a true automatic is something with a torque converter. DSG's, SMG's, and twin-clutch systems do not have any of these. Twin-clutch systems are faster than any manual shift. Really the only reason to stick with a MT is cost, tunability, or stubborness. That said, I have a 6MT for cost reasons. I'd rather spend the extra $4k a twin-clutch would cost on something else.

I will reserve my judgement on DSG/SMG until I actually drive one but I already know there is a lot of satisfaction that comes from driving a MT properly. Yeah, I might not nail it every time, but performing a perfectly executed heal-toe downshift is heaven!

Autos are faster.

Manuals have a laundry list of problems, so go ahead and get one if you enjoy replacing your clutch.

I own a 08 6speed Z and love it, but my next Z will be if it is offered DSG or whatever Nissan calls it.

As of right now my 350z is pretty much sold to my brother who is giving me his jetta baby 01 and auto till the next Z hits the street.

Quick Reply: Will the 370Z be offered with auto trans only?
