Default Lets Talk Pumpkins! (Final drive gearing for the 370z)

Lets Talk Pumpkins! (Final drive gearing for the 370z)

Back when I had my 350z 5AT, I upgraded to a 3.5 final drive from the factory 3.3. The performance boost was great, changed the acceleration noticeable and was well worth the money.

Some of the 3.7, 3.9 and even 4.08 gearing options gave the Z even more of a muscle car feel, and were great for track days or curvy roads, the acceleration punch was worth its weight in gold.

So.. no we are looking at a new Z…
<O</O
What do we think the factory gearing will be? What Options might we see?
Could we see the use of the same Pumpkin that 350z and G35/7 use now?

I will be really surprised if nissan spends more money and time to design a different 6 speed or 7 speed auto. The 370z gets the exact same transmissions as the g37 and nothing will be different is my guess.

The Final Drive int he G35 and 350Z were different from the start, actually. If I recal, the Z 5AT had 3.3, 6MT 3.5, where the G was 3.3 on all models?

Nope. My 06 G35 Coupe 6MT is 3.5.

Are the G37 gear ratios same as the current Z? If so, I'd imagine they'd be the same for the 370Z as well.

No, HR has the same pumpkin as the earlier Zs.

The G37 6MT has a 3.7 fd (3.692) and the G37 7AT has a 3.3 fd (3.357).

I think the 350Z (HR) and the G35 Sedan (HR) had 3.5's.

The 6MT has not changed, but the 7AT on the G37 has more aggressive gearing:

Final - 3.357 : 1
1st - 4.923 : 1
2nd - 3.193 : 1
3rd - 2.042 : 1
4th, 5th, 6th, 7th - 1.411 , 1.000, 0.862, 0.771

Even though the final drive is only 3.357 compared to 3.69 for the 6MT, 1st through 3rd gear makes up for it and more.

I would imagine that if it had the same FD, the power increase over what the HR's have, and the fact that its gonna be lighter, will probably even those gears out real nice.

So the G37's MT Pumpkin is 3.7.. wonder if it is a direct swap with all of the other models?

If the 370 uses the same pumpkin series.. then a 4.0 would be FANTASTIC!

Exactly. Considering the decent numbers that the G37 posts, the 370Z doesn't need a different FD... weighing ~500 pounds less and considering how important fuel economy is these days.

And before anybody spouts off about how gas is under $3 now, anybody with half a brain knows it's temporary...

the best would be the R230 300zxTT diff with 4.10 Leader gears.
Immense durability + crazy acceleration.

not to mention the fact that with the speculated numbers the 370z will have sub 5 0-60 times.
the base C5 Vette had 350hp and weighed 3200lbs and ran a 4.7 0-60.

so with 200lbs less and 20hp less. it will most likely be about the same. just put some bigger meat in the rear.

and with the 3.7/3.9/4.08 the Car will fly with a i/h/e and a reflash.
and im sure you could take out at least 150 lbs by replacing the stock battery with a braille one, seats with FRP buckets and taking out the spare and tools.

With the 4.08 how much top end would you lose? My guess would be top speed of 140??
