370z hp/tq from NFS:U
don't get me wrong, those are killer numbers for a N/A engine BUT for the speculation and for the 2hp gain over the G? it's not worth it, i bought the Z over the G because it was a true sports car and the G is a luxury car, why give them the same power?? makes no sense since they are two different markets all together
Motor Trend says it is OFFICALLY 332 HP. Like most, I was really hoping for at least 337, 340. 26 more ponies than a 3.5 liter V6...? Maybe another 4 years will add 19 more? Oh well.
Edit: BTW, this REALLY disappoints me. Unless this car REALLY does come in at a weight of NO MORE THAN 3000lbs I dont think it will be a contender in two years when looking at the 2010 Mustang GT/Camaro/Challenger/BMW/Audi TT. I think my coin is going to the Twins and a beater. I'd hate to say it but the 370Z=failure.

This has been said numerous times, so forgive me for parroting it:
Horsepower isn't everything.
The G37 will weigh at least 400-500lbs more than the Z. That makes up for your 20 or so more hp that people have been saying the new Z needs. The Lotus Elise is one of the world's best sports cars - it has 190hp. If Nissan reduces the weight, there's no reason for them to hike up the HP - lower weight is what most focus groups, enthusiast's, etc. have been asking for. Also, why would Nissan release a first-model year with all it's tricks out of the bag? A 10hp or so boost will come mid-life cycle, like what Porsche did with the Cayman. Again, if you're worried about HP numbers the good thing is the HR reacts awesome to tunes - I know someone with a G37 how has 370 or so hp with exhaust, headers and a tune.
Torque and Weight : Those are the factors I care about most in the Z. If Nissan increases the TQ number from the 270 in the G, I'll be happy. Second would be the weight - if it stays under 3200lbs I'm satisfied. Also, I have a feeling the aftermarket scene is really going to head upscale with the parts, like how the Elise's is - Lightweight parts like exhaust and whatnot using Titanium and carbon fiber - little more expensive bust massive weight savings. (Example: Stock Elise system weighing 37lbs stock, 15lbs with aftermarket and adding 7+hp/4+tq)

I agree with you to a point. But the Lotus weighs what? like 2000lbs MAX? Its also 60K+. Thats fine. But 332 HP at 3300 lbs wont cut it. Not when the 2010 Mustang is making 400HP+ at 3400lbs for $30K. 370Z needs a modest turbo at 9 or 10psi making 350HP, 290 ft lbs torque, 3200lbs for $32K Enthusiast model to play this game. But for those #'s from Nissan it would be more of a $40K realistically. In which case I mod my 350Z with twins or spend my $40K on a Vette.

yea but the extra weight savings and all isn't really that important unless you are seriously tracking the car....to the basic consumer they don't think about these things, they see HP and TQ numbers and go with it...NOW to our perspecitve it does make a difference but not enough for Nissan to make this change without losing profit...that's why Nissan should be able to offer different packages that offer different HP and TQ ratings to benefit the broad customer basis, not just here you go and that's it...many other car companies are offering this and i think one of the biggest companies doing this is BMW and they are profiting through the roof since the consumer now has MANY options
Yep, I agree. Choice is the ULTIMATE luxury. The 370Z WILL be faster and quicker in every aspect. Im just pointing out that the MAIN competition for the Z has been the S2000 and Mustang GT. And it hangs with them very well AS IS. Obviously I own a Z and think the Z does most things better when it comes to the act of driving. Thats why I chose a Z and not a S2K or Mustang. Both those competitors are GREAT vehicles and the Z RIGHT NOW has a slight edge in overall performance. In 2010+ when Ford launches their 400+HP, 3400lb GT and Honda put out the 300HP S3000(?) I hardly think the 370Z at (future #'s?) 340HP and 285lbs of torque at 3300lbs will keep the Z in the lead. All in my humble opinion of course.
And FWIW, I dont think the Z NEEDS to beat an M3. The fact it hangs with one now is awesome but they are two TOTALLY different cars in two TOTALLY different classes. $35k vs $70K. But IMO it MUST hand Ford and Honda their asses on the track.

Out of the box, the HR is better than a DE. But the HR falls on it's face compared to a DE when you start modding it beyond simple boltons.
The DE has been around longer and has superior aftermarket support. Heck, they're pushing over 1,000whp out of FI DE's now (SP, Intense, and Injected). Go to the shop-build forum to see numerous threads. HR's are no where close to the DE, and that's why HR's aren't being built to big WHP like DE's.
The aftermarket has basically forgotten about the HR, or is just not interested in the HR. And that's why the HR is getting left behind.

^^ Now it's about forced induction now.
Any car can make 1000+ hp with built internals, what's your point? Just because no one here has built theirs doesn't mean there no forged internals out there for it, someone in the HR tech area is going to build his soon. And so far everyones been happy with their 500+whp stock block HR. And no, the HR is not being skipped over in the aftermarket world, explain why Greddy, GTM, and a couple others have turbo kits ready for it?
Edit: I'm not sure, but I believe there is also a 4.5 stroker kit for the HR.
Edit 2:Went back and looked around, there is a 4.5 stroker kit and it's offered by GTM.

More Zs to drive!
