What are people expecting with only 26 more HP than than an HRz. At best it may .2 seconds faster in a 1/4 mile with equal drivers.

Yah for real. My guess is that it'll be the same difference as a DE and an HR.

..which is a lot of difference. But, your comparison is good. The difference between the DE to HR is almost a completely different engine.

the funny thing is that everyone is praising this as the fastest Z ever tested but it's not.

everyone seems to be forgetting the smz and SR71 Z32's.

SR71 stats
428hp
430ft-lbs
3500lbs
4.6 0-60
60mph to 0 of 109ft
.90 skidad
245/40/17 F
275/40/17 R
12.80 1/4 mile @ 117.6mph
rotors were standard 11 inches in front and 11.7 in rear. only thing upgraded about them was the pads.

and this was 20 years ago lol.

VQ35DE
VQ35HR
VQ37VHR

What's next? You know 370z will add weight in coming years. My bet is keep an eye on Infiniti and see what they'll come up with?

The 2009 370Z was always going to have 330 horsepower as that motor is already federalized here in the US. Perhaps the Nismo version or 2010 model will get a power bump up to 345 or so but the initial model gets the same motor as the G37. The performance gains were thought to come from a major weight reduction of 200+ pounds and a curb weight around a Caymans at 3000 pounds. This new shorter, smaller car weighs MORE than the last Nismo 350Z that Motor Trend weighed! The tested car weighs 3355 pounds, or 355 pounds too many to make it perform above it's power rating, and cylinder count like I was hoping. It is still a good performing car, not a great one as the initial spy specs would suggest. 350 horsepower and 3000 pounds would have made this car compete almost on an equal footing with the C6 Vette and be ahead of the new 325 horsepower Cayman S. The styling is growing on me, but I will wait to see if there is a Nismo version that has a little more power and perhaps a bit of weight removed.

They don't have set weight listed. I think they just went by what they were told by Nissan. This is the dimensions and weight they put.

Wheelbase 100.4in
Length 167.1in
Width 72.6in
Height 51.8in
Curb Weight 3350-3400lbs

Infinity wouldn't make a lighter car. ...it's not a smart sales standpoint. But, Nissan always seems to be listening, even if you don't believe it. It's not easy to make everyone happy. ..and a stronger but lighter car.

If you noticed, it's hard to bolt-on crap to Z cars to make them quicker, mainly because, their engines are soo well crafted.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear but I didn't mean to say look at what Infiniti makes. I meant what would be the next engine to go into the Z after VQ37VHR. Yea I know it's kinda pointless right now to even think about that. And I agree with you, VQ's are 1 of the best engines, if not the best, there is.

Speaking about Motor Trend, don't they usually post the video of their road test??? I know we have the numbers on paper but a video would be nice on their website.

And its funny that a lot of you were fantasizing that it would weigh around 3100 lbs and have around 350HP. First off Nissan never really makes light-weight cars weight is a Mazda thing. Just look at the GTR, so to think the new Z was going to come in at 3100lbs was dreaming, Nissan isn't known for lightweight. And as the generations go on or a new model comes up the car usually grows about 200-300lbs. So for Nissan to actually think about weight a little bit this time around and keep it about the same as the current car is an achievement.

For those hoping for 350HP was another dream. Nissan always come out rather soft on the power end of things in the first couple years. While I think they do put more focus on the motor (power/tq) end of things they always seem to put it just around the competition instead of giving a bit more so the competition has to catch up. My thinking is though 2-3 years in both the Z/G will get a healthy dose of a power upgrade. Cause I expect possibly BMW to turn up the wick on the 335 since the Z is now treading on its toes.
See this is what I mean -- perfect example of defensive fanboyism. There's only one question that I'd ask: Did or did it not end up 200lbs lighter than the 350Z (or anywhere close to 200lbs lighter) as it was projected to by just about every website, publication, and press? Given that it is reported to be slightly HEAVIER than the 350Z, the answer is clearly "no". End of story. It did not. Any answer other than "no" is weaseling around and you're gonna get called out on avoiding reality.

Now, is it the end of the world? No, of course not! It's probably still an awesome car. My only concern expressed in that post, though, was whether or not it achieved its most anticipated goal of being at-or-near 200lbs lighter..

nissan delivered with a 200lb lighter and better chassis.
Curb weight fails but im sure if you know a machinist and want to lighten up the car you could replace some beams with aluminum or titanium if you have a hole burning in your pocket.

It's a preview with a preproduction vehicle, not the final car. I'm sure the real numbers will be better.

As to people saying Motor Trend is more reliable... no. It's just printing what you want it to. They always do.

Not picking on you or anything but I've seen several people post the same thing. What makes everyone believe that the Auto will be quicker?? Does it come with a factory racing stall or something?
