Default Car & Driver reviews production 370Z, now weighs a lot more than expected

I just picked up the Jan 09 issue of Car and Driver, and in it they review a production spec 370Z. In it I coudln't help but to notice what they had to say about the weight of the production 370Z. Apparently Nissan says that revised safety standards alone added about 100lbs to the car, factor in additional reinforcements and the new 370Z now weighs 3350lbs for the base model with the sport model tipping the scale at 3400lbs. Quite disappointing if you ask me, 1/4 mile time was tested at 13.6 sec @105, which is not much faster at all.

All reviews are different.. The only way Ill know how the car feels.. is when I drive it myself... I dont really pay attention to reviews as I said there all different. The pictures are nice though!

True that the writers opinions are completely objective, however I am just talking about revised specifications which there is no denying.

So Nissan lied to us about the weight from LA Auto Show and all the publicity marketing, including on their website?

I've never been overwhelmed by the level of accuracy or review quality from Car and Driver. I say wait and see.

lol ownd, i would really be laughing if that is in fact true, 3350 when mine is 3339, + 30 or so horses which can be gained by simple boltons and not suffering from the headlights and taillights and the fangs, i say, win win.

Cant be.... Other mags have weighed it, some getting 3310 or so up to 3350 for the Touring/Sport. Also, on The370Z (I think...) someone put it on a truck scale and it was 3320 or something like that. Nissan DID in fact manage to drop 198 pounds from the car, but it was the safety stuff and reinforcements that brought it back to the 3232/3276 respectively.....

C&D must have been smoking something good!

REPOST.

The Jan. issue has been out for 3 weeks. As for the 1/4 time, it's a Car & Driver Estimate if you look closer. And I would be willing to bet they used weights "from Nissan" and I say that subjectively as C&D is just making another estimate.

All of the reviews we've had so far of pre-production models. So if C&D was told by Nissan themselves that they actually increased the weight of the Z...then, wow. I don't even know what to say. Just wow. It seems unlikely that the weight listed in the issue would be incorrect, seeing as how C&D dedicated a portion of the article to the weight increase.

I see these same posts all the time. Someone will note what a magazine weight listed and a bunch of people that happen to have the recently made "older" model state that they weighed their car somewhere at some time and it weighed the same or less. Same thing with 1/4 mile times.

The only way to compare weights is to have both cars equally equipped weighed on the same device. We don't even know what goes into the weights listed by Nissan or the magazine (equipment, person in the car, amount of gas). Not knowing all the variables, it is safest to use the numbers published by Nissan for both models as a guide (unless your a conspiracy theorist). If those show a weight gain, then I will buy it. Aren't all the magazines stating different weights as well? Obviously, there is something at play here so it is useless to compare data from two sources (magazine vs. random guy).

Same with 1/4 miles. People compare a magazine time to their time. The only way to kind of gauge a performance gain is to compare the average of all magazine times. or the average of what you got with both cars. But to take one time from a magazine and compare it to one time that you had a quick run at some other track and make the statement that there is no performance gain isn't very truthful. I remember when the G35 (DE) people were saying the newer G35 (HR) was not any faster. Someone would talk about this 13.9 time that someone got by some miracle and made that the baseline for the DE motor.

Within a few months, they'll be more info available for us and we'll get a better idea if the new 370 is lighter, faster, etc. Right now the reviews are pretty positive, much more than I expected. I think Nissan really put a good car together and not just a mild refresh.

Some people just don't want to believe that the 370z is heavy, no matter how many reviews are published. This car will be 3300-3500lbs depending on trim. Not exacty the light weight Nissan promised.

love how HR owners just pray that the 370 is heavier and slower than expected so they can feel better about their purchase. i could careless, i hope its all that and a bag of chips.

Barring the overweight aspect, Car and Driver actually liked the car. They at least gave Nissan credit for "not screwing up a good thing."

it wouldnt be slower, but it does make me happier that the new z is heavier. Im thinking as years go by, all new z's are going to get heavier and heavier, unless all car manufacturers start using carbon fiber to become more greener and lighter bla bla bla

anyways, i can sell my car right now and get a brand new 370 for the same money (im in canada and out prices are jacked hiiiigh lol)

that aside, like i said before and quoted the guy saying, it does make me feel better because i simply love the performance of the 370 but hate the overall look with passion.

I'm pretty sure someone in another thread said that they emailed the editor at C&D and he said that the numbers they got were from weighing the car themselves, not estimates.
