Call me crazy, but I'd take a 370Z and put the 15k I saved into a turbo and be more satisfied with that than I ever would be with a Chevy....

I can speak to C5 Z06 handling. I got to ride with a friend at Infineon raceway in a HPDE - level 3 and he was one of the better drivers.

I always thought the vettes were good for straight-line, but they could not corner like a Z. Boy, was I wrong!!!!!

I was in complete disbelief, approaching turn 3 in the speed that the vette driver was doing. I KNEW he was going in way too hot and I was panicking a bit. And the car stuck through the corner like nothing I even knew or though possible. By the end of our third lap after warm-up, he was already lapping slower cars like Z's and E36 M3's (one of which which had r-compounds on it and had revised suspension points on it). The Carerra 4s and similar cars were next and by the last lap, he had lapped every other car at the event - some more than once.

The C5 Z06 was STOCK - down to the crappy stock tires!!!

I just had no idea... and I'll never badmouth a Vette again. I actually might buy one instead of the disappointment that is the 370z.

If I did not live in cali with the tree-huggers, I'd get a 370 and Slap TT's on it. - just because I have always liked a sleeper. THe Vette is no sleeper though, but the 370 has no ***** (in the straights)...

BTW, in that leaked 370z Nissan Marketing literature, Nissan listed the Vette as a competitor - lol.

Cars don't make the person.. Nor did the Z community start with the 350z. What? Are you buying a car for yourself or for what people think of it?

My point is every site will have trolls and kids etc...but their always just a minority, there are will always be true enthusiasts who are willing to help out a fellow enthusiast. No need to put down an entire community and its fans.

Good point.

The fact is, the new Z's handling and braking performance is up there with the vette's for a heck of a lot less money. You should look up a road test/review sometime.
Personal opinions is all I can really offer since to be honest have been in Japan for so long I have yet to see either in person. My opinion was purely based on reading I have done from magazine tests. But also understand that magazine tests are sometimes biased opinions also so whatever they say goes into the fine print.

So in Car and Driver's Track Meat's test they used the Z51 and it outperformed every car in its class and came in right under the GTR lap time. The GTR's time was a 2:55.6 and the Z51 was 3:01.2.

So how would the 370Z compare?

You know, you are talking to someone that is on the Vette forums as well.

The stock C6 brakes are NOT that good.

And they wanted the Maxima's Chassis to compete with the 911 GT3. Nissan always overestimates what they create and make themselves look foolish when they try to save money building it. Why doesn't the 350Z come from the factory with 265+ tires. To save money. Why not a fresh Nissan built motor instead of a Renault. To save money.

The new Z with sport package comes with 245's up front and 275's out back. And the VQ has always been built by nissan. Don't know where you heard the renault thing....

And for those that CAN'T read:

I'm comparing the 370 w/ Sport Package to a Base C6 corvette. Not a Z06 or ZR1.

I'm still challenging someone to offer up an argument that puts the base Vette head and shoulders above the 370z w/ Sports Package.

Here are some of the track lap times at Top Gear track which is a small track that favors better handling car:
# 1:26.7 - Porsche Cayman S[16]
# 1:26.8 - Chevrolet Corvette C6 LS2
# 1:26.8 - Ferrari 575M Maranello GTC[17]
# 1:26.9 - Lexus IS-F
The C6 actually is slower than the Cayman S. Wither longer straight, the C6 will probably be faster. But the argument here is that the C6 is a fast straight line car but has average handling capability.

That's not necessarily true either. The argument here (as far as this thread is concerned) is that the 370Z with sports package has above average handling and braking capabilities.

i am seriously considering getting a new 370z by the end of the year. I was an owner of a an 03 350z Track. I loved my Track Z with its Brembos and LSD, but to be honest if i were to do it over again i would just get a base model. Every mod that the Track had that i paid extra for i replaced save for the brembos.
i am guessing that the aftermarket for the 370Z will be just as big as the 350Z so why pay the extra money for the sport package etc when you can just upgrade to something better for close to the same cost. just my $0.02

The LS3 would be faster by a bit. C6's are also hampered slightly by the stock GY run-flat tires. Wish GM would offer something better in that regard.

And for those believing the 370Z is a better track car over the C6, apparently the 370Z is having overheating issues......not a good sign.

I test drove the 370Z this past weekend and loved the car, but hated how you have such a huge blind spot. Is this something you just have to get used to?

So if you play the modification game, a set of coilovers on the C6 gives you better handling over the 370Z plus the 100hp it has over the 370Z stock.

So a set of good coilovers costs $15k...
