Good question. Is the gearing substantially different, maybe? If we start off with two near-identical engines but get different results at the wheels, then I'd think there are some differences somewhere in the drivetrain. In any case, I think we need to wait for some more people to try this setup and dyno their results so that we can compare. Right now, we have a sample size of just 1, and we need more data from a larger sample size. For all I know, maybe I really did luck out and ended up with a factory ringer.

I never dyno'd this car while it was stock. Sharif explained this, and I explained this in the video. That's why both Sharif and I have been saying don't read too much into this, take it with a grain of salt, etc.

Reminds me of a Dead Stock Dodge SRT-4 I dyno'd when they first came out.
The ridiculous car made 252 HP at the wheels. I had dyno'd about 5 of them in stock trim previously and none came even close to that number.
Congrats to the owner of a Very Healthy 370z!
Enjoy it! I know I would

Looong time lurker, thinking about getting a 370. I have a question, did you break your car in or did you drive it like you stole it from day 1? I would be curious about how the driver of the white Z broke his car in as well?

I think you guys will continue to be surprised.. doesn't sound like a ringer to me. This motor is responding well to well designed modifications..
We've got plans in the works.. and I know others do. This will continue to be a highly modified platform, with continued successes..

HR nuthugger here :
Decent gains can be had with HR bolt-ons. I am running 296 whp and 260 wtq with no tune.
But I have to say all you guys getting hung up on HP have the Z all wrong. In particular, it's the increased handling that has me jumping HR ship to get a 370 - that and the syncroRev match. I don't think there's a significant increase in acceleration. Someone's gonna get a deal on my HR - resale has tanked
My stock HR baseline run:
My HR with Injen CAI, Stillen HFC and Bassani exhaust:

.... i think the ecu is totally different in the VHR???? b/c with the VVEL it eliminates the need for throttle body's and I know that has a big effect ( sensor wise ) on how the ecu operates...
That would be interesting though if you could just swap the heads on the HR to VHR heads w/ out also changing the blocks internals...
Does anyone know what compression the 370's are at???

^ I was about to say the same thing.. We're talking about number-ratio increases, not just numbers... I too want to jump to a Z34 for the handling factor too.

I tried to do the 'keep it below 4000 rpm' thing but really just couldn't. I ended up driving normal, which for me means that I usually shift at around 5000 rpm. I did make a point to not drive it hard until the 1200 miles were up though (i.e., no WOT to redline). I did take it up to redline during the test drive though, and I should also mention that it already had 20 miles on the odo when I bought it, so who knows how it was treated during those first 20. Finally, I don't know if this could be a factor at all, but as I work from home it took me quite a while to complete my break-in miles (about 2 months). Mike took a lot less time to complete his break-in cycle. And he was also more successful at not going above 4000 rpm (which is what the manual instructs). So in short, I wasn't as gentle with the rpms, but my break-in period lasted much longer. The other car was broken in more gently on the rpms, but completed the 1200 miles within a much shorter period of time.
