Default Decisions Decisions...

So it's summer time which means I'm gonna be working now. I have about $4,000 in the bank right now and I'm sittin on about $470 a week. After the summer is up I'll have enough to finally turbo my 350z if I decide to.

But I've been thinking and I'm not sure if I'd rather put a GTM kit on my 350, or trade in the 350 and buy a 370 (hopefully a Nismo but I think it will be out of my price range).

So all of you 370z owners let me know what you think. Do you think the aesthetics and power gain in the 370z is worth trading the 350 in? Or would a boosted 350 be a better choice?

Thanks.

if you only make 470 a week you should not be buying a turbo or buying something thats out of your "price range"! save your money and enjoy your headache free car

^^^ Agreed. $4000 is nothing, considering that's about half the cost of a full TT kit, not including labor, tuning, misc. parts, etc... etc... $470 a week just isn't gonna cut it. To answer your question... It would be in your best interest financially to keep your 350 vice trading it in for the 370, that's a no brainer. The power increase for the 370 is not THAT significant over the 350 (assuming you have an HR)... Bottom line, it's your money, your decision OP...

470 isn't too bad haha its just a summer job while I'm not in school and I should be able to pull in about 6k before I go back to school. I know that it may be wasteful spending but what else should I be spending my money on? My parents pay for college and living expenses so it's not like I have anything better to do with it except save .

It will probably be easier for me to decide when I have all of my money after summer is up. I looked into prices for 370's and they are close to 40k? I thought this car MSRP'd around 30k? And I was figuring around 15k trade in + anywhere between 8,000-10,000 of my own money but if they are sellin for close to 40,000 then I'm going to be going with a turbo.

Nothing better to spend your money on? Im sure mommy and daddy don't need help paying for all of your school and living expenses or anything. Someones priorities seem to be a little dic.ked up...

I'm the one who worked for scholarships in high school so my parents only have to pay $8,000 a year for me to go to school. They are paying way more to send my sisters to high school, and I have offered to take a job during the school year to help them. They said that they are more worried about my grades than me making money to pay for school. If they asked for money I would gladly cough it up for them.

I didn't come in here to start a debate, I just wanted to know what the 370z owners thought, and if the prices are as high as they look I won't be able to afford financing on a new car anyways.

PRuane, stick with your 350z for now and stack up your money while in school. If things haven't changed much since I was in school little things will come up that you will need money for (Cancun perhaps?). Besides you already own a nice car that no woman would be embarrassed to be seen in, enjoy it. When you graduate and land a job, I have the feeling you will have different priorities..... (condo/home) and a different mindset towards cars. For some reason BMW's were the cars of choice when I got out. Matter of fact they still are. Then you'll have your toy (boosted 350z IN DUE TIME) and your everyday ride (BMW) if you so choose.

P.S. Don't worry about the whole parents footing the entire bill for school thing, myself and my brothers got the same deal from our parents as well. Some parents are well-off enough to do things like that, and I believe most would truly want to. You made it to the big leagues now and your performance is all that matters, no distractions just business. Make your parents proud, and earn their sacrifices. Best of luck.

I say go ahead and add a turbo (or two)...I mean you only live once and being able to tell your prof you were absent because you lost compression in cylinder 3 or threw a bearing is totally worth a letter grade or two.

Thank you for your advice, I'm sure that when I get all the money in hand that I need to go F/I I'm going to be more apt to save it. But it's hard for me to look into the future that far and think about what I'm going to want to spend my money on in 6+ years.

Why does it matter? If you really need to know I'm 19 and just finished my freshman year of college.

Yeah if I do decide to go F/I it's going to be the GTM twin kit, but I hope I never have to tell anyone that I lost compression or threw a bearing

Dont FI your 350. You dont have the money to own an FI car.

You cant buy a 370z. You dont haven enough money or income.

Verdict: keep your 350 the way it is. Be happy you are driving a 350z @ 19 YRS OLD.
