G'day,
just a follow up from my post in "new owners". Picked up my new Z last wednesday and arranged for a few days off work to break her in. Took a ride outback on a thousand mile loop (sydney-dubbo-parkes-temora-bathurst-sydney).
Its the manual with sports and touring pack, black trim, monterey blue, standard wheels. (The Aussie options are only man. or auto. The sports and touring package is standard - no choice about that. We dont get the Rays wheels for the 2009 model or the Nismo edition yet)
The pics of the Z is taken at Parkes, a radio telescope facility. Added some other pics of my Mazda RX7 and Jensen Intercepter III just for the hell of it.
First impressions - the road noise from the tyres is louder than I expected on other than a perfectly smooth slab of black. I would imagine with the 19" Rays and the commensurate lower profile tyres that this will only get louder. ??
The engine I find is 'rough' compared to the 1.3 litre rotary or the 440 cu inch Chrysler donk. I should probably hold judgement on that until she is run in properly. Does anyone else think that the 3.7 donk is a little rough? This is my first Z car - I'm probably just too used to the rotissery and the v8.
The synchromesh works very well - I can see this being a standard for all cars in the future. Its one of those simple ideas that works so well that you think "why the f did'nt we think of this before?"
The side and rear vision is less than what I am used to (look at the orange beast's rear window for comparison) , thankfully the side mirrors are huuuuge and its not really an issue once you 'feel' where the extremities lie.
I am loving the Z and getting ready to head off for a few hundred more miles.... I'll be flat out like a lizard drinking.
Am enjoying the forum.
